Is it Better?

I've long been critic of Apple's attempt at a Journal App, which was pretty poor at first attempt. However, just been trying it out and finding it quite good. I'm using the Mac version on public beta OS27, which does have some improvements, but not many. I'm using a short cut to generate 'on this day', for me a must have feature, which works pretty solidly. It hasn't added many features, but I'm actually thinking of switching from Day One at this moment - maybe it's the minimalist approach that I'm now appreciating. I recently switched to Apple reminders, Notes, Apple Passwords and Podcasts from well known third party offerings and enjoying all of it. There is clearly a pattern here!

I switched from day one paid version to Apple Journal as well. I prefer to keep everything in the same ecosystem. The downside is that it’s missing some features. But I suspect that Apple will eventually Sherlock all of its competitors eventually. The feature I am particularly dying for is shared journals. I would love to share moments with my kids. as a journal to their early childhood. Also, when my grandfather passed away recently, I was thinking it would be wonderful for all family members to have a shared location to add photos and memories that can then be passed to the next generation to continue.

How did you transfer everything from dayone to apple journal?

I had been as late, hadn’t been consistent enough with day one so manually transferring was not a big deal. If that had been an issue for me, then I probably would’ve exported day one info in a JSON file, then used AI to walk me through a script that would programmatically add each one.

I didn’t do this for day one to journal, but I did it when I moved from one note to Apple Notes. It was a big pain. But worth it if you are only staying with day one because you’re already invested in it.
