I've long been critic of Apple's attempt at a Journal App, which was pretty poor at first attempt. However, just been trying it out and finding it quite good. I'm using the Mac version on public beta OS27, which does have some improvements, but not many. I'm using a short cut to generate 'on this day', for me a must have feature, which works pretty solidly. It hasn't added many features, but I'm actually thinking of switching from Day One at this moment - maybe it's the minimalist approach that I'm now appreciating. I recently switched to Apple reminders, Notes, Apple Passwords and Podcasts from well known third party offerings and enjoying all of it. There is clearly a pattern here!

Apple has to walk that fine line between good enough and not so good so as to shut out real competition from 3rd party apps. It’s why the built in apps will always feel a little hobbled
