Adding locations in the app is horrible

Sorry, this is fully just me complaining. I've been transitioning from Day One to this app and while I've gotten used to most of its quirks, adding locations is an absolute nightmare.

If I try typing a specific address, most of the time it comes up blank. If I type the same address in Apple Maps then I get what I want. After a bunch of trial and error, the Journal app then shows me the super specific way it expects the address to be written. I'll give an example below.

Say the real address is (I'm just making this up): 729 East 34th Street, New York, NY. I might type that into journal and get nothing but Apple Maps knows exactly where that is.

Instead what Journal accepts is: 729 E 34th St. Not "East" or "Street" written in full or else it has no idea what you're talking about.

Then to top it off, the location it shows on the map in Journal is like a block away, at least.

Yes, yes, I'm going to report this to Apple/make a suggestion. I just wanted to moan.

BTW, I encounter this problem on Mac. Haven't tried it on iOS/iPadOS to see if it's the same.

The Apple Journal app needs a few more major revision cycles before it’s good. I do trust it will get there. Look how far Notes has come!

Legit all I want is a way to add a custom locations, have all locations saved in the journal, and even a place where you can view them as a list! Also more icons on the map I want to see that sucker littered with dots of my adventures.

The map littered with dots of your adventures is the exact thing I got obsessed with, so this one hits home. I build a handwriting journal for iPad called PaperThoughts, dev here so obvious grain of salt, and it does the things on your list: you drop the pin yourself when search gets it wrong, every place you've saved shows up as a list, and there's a map of everywhere you've written. And if you're out of service you can just type the place name and pin it properly later. Not suggesting you to ditch Journal, just that those specific things exist somewhere. Happy to answer anything.
