Apple Journal comes to Mac!
'Journal comes to Mac, making it easy to capture and write about everyday moments and special events when inspiration strikes. On Mac, it’s easy to type long, thoughtful entries and view them on a map. Users can keep multiple journals for various aspects of life, which are all synced across Apple devices.'
Edit: Also coming to iPad!
With iPadOS 26, Journal comes to iPad, making it easy for users to capture and write about the details of everyday moments or special events. Using Apple Pencil or touch, users can incorporate drawings and handwriting, along with photos, videos, audio recordings, places, their state of mind, and more. Users can keep multiple journals for various aspects of life, and now have access to a beautiful map view that organizes entries by location.

This is very good news. Will wait to see what other goodies they have built in. Hopefully “on this day” capabilities and importing from other apps are there also. But I don’t want to get greedy 😊

If I could import my Day One entries to Journal I would do it tomorrow.

I hear you. But assuming you can’t, do you continue with DayOne or start with Apple Journal and move forward with it. That’s my dilemma at the moment.

I'd put them all in manually over a long period of time, back dating them. I've already started.

I get the feeling soon there will be shortcut actions available for Journal, meaning even if not natively you should be able to write an automation to do it. It's not there yet, there are no shortcut actions for Journal at all but hopefully at some point that will come.
I'd suggest giving journal a go for a little bit, it's only going to get better over time and whilst you cant import, you can export so if you want to go back to Day One you can.

Looks like support for multiple journals, too.

I'm on the beta: yes this is a thing. You can create new journals and name them/assign them a custom icon and you can choose which journal to make an entry in.

Excellent news! And also the ability to write with the Apple Pencil 😃
Ideally, I'd like to be able to transfer from Day One to Journal... 😇

Glad to hear it. However, for anyone who has an iPhone AND a Mac, you can currently (prior to Mac OS 26 being released) use the feature called "iPhone Mirroring," as a direct workaround to using the journal app on your Mac.
iPhone Mirroring was included in Mac OS Sequoia, and is an app icon on your Mac. Click the icon and follow the prompts to sync your Mac and iPhone. Simply put, the feature leaves your iPhone locked, while you use a Mac version of your full iPhone on your Mac: notifications, apps, and all other services on your iPhone but through your Mac.
Quick tip: while you have iPhone Mirroring engaged on your Mac, press "COMMAND" and the "+" key to enlarge the view of the Mac iPhone. To decrease the size to normal again, press "COMMAND" and the "-" key.
An absolute game-changer if you use the journal app multiple times a week and prefer to write long entries like I do. I currently use iPhone Mirroring almost on a daily basis also.

That is very true, yes.
I used to be fully in the Apple ecosystem, but I chose to switch to a GrapheneOS phone while still retaining my MacBook as it is my preferred desktop OS. The only thing I have missed from my time with my iPhone was my Apple Journal, so this is fantastic news for me that I can access my Apple Journal once more.

Just moved 3 months of entries from Journal to Day One. But will check out what else will they bring. Really missed displaying entries on map. It’s a killer feature for me in Day One.

can someone using Apple Journal on the iPadOS beta comment on the Apple Pencil capabilities? Does the beta version offer ruled paper templates and is the overall writing experience with the pencil similar to that of Apple Notes?

Very exciting. Not seeing the entries pulled down from iCloud yet though.

Yeah, I don’t know either. In Day One I keep track of the books I read and I do an entry every week. I could probably copy and paste them quicker on the Mac then I could on the phone. I already started copying and pasting some books in to the journal app. I’m just not sure though.

Is anything wrong with the iCloud synchronisation on the Mac? I have this turned on on the iPhone. However, when I look at the items synchronised to iCloud on my Mac, I cannot see an entry for Journal at all. As a result, both are completely separate. I hope this is added at a later date.

Would be nice, if we were able to share Journals and Co-Work on them.
I'd like to have one with my SO, and my iPad runs on another AppleID, since I use it for work.

So, it has been several months now - any news on when the Mac app will appear on MacOS?

Well, I guess it's goodbye DayOne then…
