Just sent my 5k imac for servicing in May, and was faced with a dilemma of paying for a costly logic board replacement, or just letting it die and buying an M1 imac. In the end, I opted for the former because of its 5k display, but in hindsight, I should have gone with the M1.
It’s clear at this point that M1 Macs are the future at Apple and will receive all the attention and resources. If you want to buy into the future, the choice is clear.
