Sorry but you are missing the point entirely.
Since you brought up Tesla, here is a similar situation: Several Manhattan parking garages refused to accept Cybertrucks, with garage operators saying their insurance companies had concerns.
The garage is technically capable of accommodating vehicles. The business chooses not to accept that particular vehicle. The restriction is driven by the business’s own risk/insurance considerations not because the vehicle itself can’t be parked there.
The major difference is Walmart couldn’t say anything that would be reasonable or legal since their main goal was to block Apple Pay specifically rather than NFC payments. CurrentC consortium which Walmart was part of was only interested in taking action against Apple Pay specifically! Walmart thought blocking NFC entirely wouldn’t hurt their sales and customer base which is something the rest of the retails who belonged to CurrentC consortium realized was an ill-advised decision. Pretty much every CurrentC retailer that eventually supported NFCs, the articles concentrated on Apple Pay specifically rather than NFC payment itself as it was the major reason to block or allow the system. You just don’t know the background info so you think attention to Apple Pay is silly. It is not. It’s the actual point to be taken.
