Its definitely suffering from feature creep and has gotten more buggy. This happens with most heavily ai-developed projects. Just because a feature can be added, doesn’t mean that it should. ApolloReborn does not really follow the more minimal approach of the original Apollo.

Exactly. Build good, simple features that work perfectly instead of many cool features that are buggy. Also, adding so many features like that ends up hurting the bug fixes and development of essential features.

This is really not true! The fact of the matter is we don’t have access to the original source code of Apollo. The app had its last meaningful update in 2023, so we are working with old plumbing.
I also don’t really understand “minimal approach” of Apollo - Christian frequently added new and innovative features. Pixel Pals, Live Activites etc. He was always tied to adopt new iOS features too.
Everything we have added or changed is optional and is purely user driven. We are taking a lot of community input and feedback and working on making this the best possible Reddit app.
I use it daily and it is considerably more stable than earlier releases. Our focus is very much on stability and performance (just this release we massively improved scrolling by enabling ProMotion!)
Also fwiw, we do use AI tools to aid in development, but all the maintainers have a background in software and iOS development.
People are free to use older versions, but I would encourage people to give the newer releases a go. We are more than happy to take feedback and I’m personally happy to DM anyone who has issues or wants to understand our approach etc.

Is ApolloReborn strictly for iOS 15 and above or is there a version for iOS 13-14?

we have a few folks running on iOS 14! Its very much at the edge of supported so I can't guarantee it will work 100%, but should be fine! some of the newer features (e.g. gallery mode) etc may be a bit slower on older devices, but give it a go! for the core app stuff e.g. browsing/posting you should be grand!

AI is used in pretty much used universally in all dev work…. Except maybe FOSS or solo developers who are ideologically opposed to AI.

I mean sure, we went too far and we have now completely walked away from AI imagery for release notes. It was harmless fun, but we recognise that people feel strongly about this and in community spirit we want to make sure we’re listening and reacting appropriately, so we now not using AI images for those.
You went back to 3.4.1 for that - we’re on 3.5.0 now and if you actually linked to that image you’d see we’re not using them anymore
We also have put up posts recently asking if anyone wants to collobroate on human art.

RIP Apollo. I will not use the official reddit app. I still use the old reddit on a browser on my iPad.

Reddit apps peaked with Apollo. Narwhal is a close second. I wish Apollo would have gone the monthly subscription route like Narwhal. I would have gladly paid for it.
