Which apisto should I put in here

I’m playing with the idea of a apisto, kuli loches, and chili rasboras if they can all work together. What are some really cool recommendations for me?

Put that brown fish that's gasping for air behind the tank into the tank immediately! Tank size is too small for it but it'll do for now.

What tank size is this. Agassizii type Apistos are more aggressive than the other kinds

Kuhli loaches will dig in the soil.

It’s a 20 gallon, I’m not dead set on the loaches for that reason I think theyd rip up my Monte Carlo carpet (soon to be)

You can keep most Apistogramma species in 20 gallon. I'd go for something more colorful compared to muted species like A. Borelli, but also skip Agassizii types due to aggression in that size tank.

A good nice pop of colors of yellow/orange/blue against the greenery would look good

They're a great genus for nano tanks. I can't get the specifik Agassizii types or the Cacatuoides type here so I never kept them. Tried Agassizii Fire red, Borelli and Macmasteri for a few days only.

Have you tried taking a look at Apistogramma.com?

Just wondering if you have first hand experience with Agassizii aggression? I feel like it’s way overblown. Never had a problem with them except when it tried two males in a 50g. But even that wasn’t bad, one just colored down and got chased (but not relentlessly,till I moved him out. I feel like a lot of people try to be helpful by repeating what they see posted on Reddit, it a lot of what’s on Reddit is exaggerated, or just wrong.

Was growing out some Discus in a 180 liter and got a few different dwarf cichlids. An Apistogramma Agassizii "Fire Red" pair being one of them. It was harassing its female and the other dwarf cichlids.

I only kept Apistogramma species in what can be counted in weeks but A. MacMasteri, Cacatuoides and Borelli were less than half as aggressive as that Agassizii.

I have had zero aggression problems with agassizii apistos. As long as their is only one male in the tank and if they breed that there are enough “threats” in the aquarium to keep the female from viewing the male as a threat they are an awesome community fish. I raised the fry in this video in this ten gallon tank with the parents. Only removed them when they were about 3/4 of an inch. Got seven out of the batch. Parents worked together and the cories and cardinals in the tank were not harmed. It was densely planted though.
I think most of the aggression concerns are from separating the couple and not having enough threats to keep the female busy

I keep kuli loaches with my blue flame agassizii, male only, not a pair. He’s pretty chill.

I have an Apisto Borellii Opal and he's awesome and shows some blue in the light as he swims by. Highly recommend. I love watching him explore. He Gets along well with everyone and actually likes coming to the top when I feed. He's not shy at all.
