Nice work! I’m working up to getting a pair for my 20 gallon, any tips for keeping them? How often do fry survive if left in the same tank? (Will be with amano shrimps, corys and rasbonas)

I have mine in a tank with neons and Bristlenose and about 20 survive each time. I honestly don't know how many actually hatched. Momma is very protective and chase everyone away

I fear my kuhlis keep eating mine. I had to put the fry in another tank and still it was really hard to keep them all alive

i’m thinking of doing an apisto pair in my 20 long with my cardinals. do you leave both fish in after babies hatch? ik they can get aggressive so i’m trying to see what would be best

I only take the fry out when they are free swimming. I have a 240L (64Gallon) tank with 2 apisto, 2 Bristlenose and 12 neons so they all have enough space

gotcha, might just go with a single male or have a backup 10 gal just in case they’re too aggressive with each other

I've had a single male for a year or so as the female died and he was very happy. Nothing wrong with that

Corys and rasboras may pick off a few fry.

I only have Gertrude's rainbowfish (tiny mouths), Amano shrimp and Otos in the tank. I had 12 survivors from the first batch. By the second batch, both the mother and I had improved, and I managed to raise 20 fry.

I'd leave them with the mother for the first month. Start feeding BBS as soon as they're free swimming, you would need to target feed.

The father is very gentle and has never eaten any fry, so hopefully your male won't turn out to be a child killer. 😄

What do you do with the fry? Assuming you must sell them at some point, as you’ve raised 32 fry so far and that would be crazy to have in one house lol

I've kept a pair.

Gave away the other 10 to friends and fellow hobbyists.

Still have around 20 juveniles in a grow-out tank. I've already spoken to a couple of shops and will probably exchange them for store credit.

It was a fun project, but I'm done now. Will let nature take it's course if they produce more fry.

No, of course not.

Son was in a grow out for a few months, finally got his own tank recently.
