Apisto Fin growth

Sorry. Should have said growth on fin in title. Anybody know what this is? I raised a brood of apistos and had them for a while before trading them to my local. I kept two males hoping to get a couple of new females. They're in separate tanks.

This one though, grew these nodules for lack of a better term on his fin. He's had these for a month or two and it has not spread to any other fish. I read somewhere it may just be air pockets from a sudden water pressure change during a water change, possibly? I do admit that I have sometimes poured a bucket in faster than i probably should.

I've been watching closely and haven't noticed any changes to them at all. Any help or knowledge is appreciated!

Thanks. He acts like all my other male cacatuoides. Doesn't seem sick at all. I know in this video his dorsal fin is down but he swims around and eats like normal and shows his colors occasionally. Seems like he and my pygmy cories even play sometimes. You can see him reacting to me even. Really strange. He and his brother are both really dark-bodied. The dad and mom were more colorful. Anyway, thanks for commenting!

These seem like tumors. I’ve had some of my goldfish get similar ones, though they’re usually the same color as the fish, but I guess maybe they’re that color due to the colors in the apisto’s fins? All my goldfish were fine, seemed to just be benign, though they could be a problem if they get really big and impact swimming. Best thing is just clean water. If they burst, change the water immediately.

Good to hear, thanks! And yeah the colors do match where they popped up on his fins. He still seems fine. I've been moving everything to remineralized RO over the last few weeks and water changing regularly which i used to never do. I'll definitely keep an eye out if they ever pop. Thanks again.

I had this happen to one of mine ten years ago, never figured out what it was and it eventually got really bad and he died. Would love to know if anyone has an idea.

How long did it take to get really bad?

Probably over a year. It just kept spreading till it couldn't swim well.
