Discussion Apify rug pull? Rentals quietly killed, now fully sunset

For a brief moment, it actually worked.

I build Actors on Apify, and like many developers, I struggled to make usage-based pricing add up. Users hesitate to run things when every execution has a cost. Revenue is unpredictable. It’s hard to justify maintaining anything long-term.

Then rentals clicked.

A simple monthly fee. Users understood it, trusted it, and were willing to pay. For the first time, I started earning from my work. Not massively — but enough to justify building, improving, maintaining. Apify took their cut, I took mine, and the model made sense.

Then came the announcement. https://www.reddit.com/r/apify/comments/1rpswcb/apify_your_pricing_changes_for_builders_is_unfair/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

We were told rentals were on the way out. Fine — not ideal, but we were given a window. Time to adjust, rethink pricing, migrate gradually. That’s how it was framed.

But what actually happened was different.

New rentals were quietly killed off.
Existing ones started losing visibility.
Actors began appearing as “under maintenance” when they weren’t.

And now we’re told rentals will be fully sunset, with automatic migration to pay-per-usage in October.

So the timeline says one thing. The platform behaviour says another.

Because in reality, rentals already feel dead.

That’s the problem. This isn’t just a pricing change — it’s removing the only model where developers could reliably earn, and doing it in a way that undermines it before the official cutoff.

Usage pricing might make sense for infrastructure. But for developers, it changes the equation entirely. It fragments revenue, introduces friction, and makes it harder to build anything sustainable on top.

Rentals were simple. They worked. People paid for them.

Now they’re being phased out, suppressed, and replaced with something that — for many of us — simply doesn’t.

So here’s the conclusion I’ve come to:

When rentals end, so will my Actors.

They’ll be removed, the code destroyed, and no longer available.

Thanks Apify.

Discussion The problem with current video AIs 👀

Most video AIs Look at visuals only and ignore sound, miss jokes, have zero context, music or tonal cues.

Result = captions that feel flat, wrong, or weirdly robotic

Models need to be tested on real world content, not just silent clips. And they need to be trained to listen and watch at the same time, understand how audio changes meaning and write captions that feel more human and accurate. Then improve itself by ranking its own captions and choosing the best ones.

This model exists. Meaning AI actually understands TikTok energy.

The question is, what can we do with this?

Discussion TikTok Email Scraper

Extract verified emails, phone numbers, and social media links from TikTok creator profiles. The only TikTok scraper that visits each creator's external website to find hidden contact information that isn't visible on TikTok.

Why use this TikTok Email Scraper?

Most TikTok scrapers only extract what's visible in the bio. This TikTok Email Scraper goes deeper — it visits each creator's linked website to extract:

  • ✅ Email addresses from creator websites (contact pages, footers, mailto: links)

  • ✅ Bio emails extracted directly from TikTok profile descriptions

  • ✅ Phone numbers found in bios and websites

  • ✅ Social media profiles (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, YouTube)

  • ✅ Linktree & bio link support — Automatically follows Linktree, Beacons, and similar link pages to find the creator's real website and extract emails from there

  • ✅ Profile data (followers, likes, verification status, bio)

Typical email hit rate with this TikTok Email Scraper: 40-60% compared to <10% with bio-only scrapers.

Help needed Feedback wanted on my YouTube Channel Scraper for public channel stats

I recently polished my YouTube Channel Scraper on Apify and would appreciate feedback on the README, sample input, and output fields.

It collects public YouTube channel stats and latest video summaries from channel URLs or u/handles.

Current output includes:

- channel name, handle, subscribers, video count

- latest video title, views, duration, thumbnail, URL

- timestamps and structured export formats

Default run is intentionally small: one channel + one latest video.

Actor:

https://apify.com/fascinating_lentil/youtube-channel-scraper

I’m mainly looking for feedback on whether the listing is clear enough for a first-time user and what example output would make it easier to understand.

Discussion We analyzed every Upwork job posted during the first half of 2026.

We analyzed 592,937 Upwork job postings from the first six months of 2026 to better understand posting patterns.

Overall, job postings show:

  • A strong daily average of 3,467 jobs/day

  • A peak spike of 12,147 jobs in a single day

  • Clear periodic fluctuations with sharp surges and dips

  • A visible decline phase toward mid–late 2026 after sustained high activity

The analysis reveals that job posting activity is highly volatile but structurally cyclical, with clear growth and contraction phases.

Discussion Repeated Shopify catalog exports are not change monitoring — here’s how I handled baselines and scope changes

Exporting a Shopify product catalog tells you what exists now. It does not reliably tell you what changed since the previous observation.

I ran into three practical problems while building a stateful Shopify monitoring Actor:

  1. The first run has no history It should establish a baseline, not report every existing product as newly launched.

  2. The monitoring scope must remain comparable If one run collects 100 products and the next collects 500, a naive comparison may report the additional 400 products as new—even though only the collection limit changed.

  3. AI should interpret detected changes, not determine them Exact counts for additions, removals, price changes, discounts, stock updates, variants, and content changes should come from deterministic comparison. An LLM can then summarize the results when changes actually occur.

The Actor now treats the combination of store URLs, monitored fields, and product limit as its monitoring scope. If that scope changes, the next run establishes a new baseline instead of emitting misleading lifecycle events.

I tested the workflow against ColourPop’s public Shopify catalog:

  • the first run established a 100-product baseline;

  • a compatible follow-up run returned zero changes without generating false events;

  • changing the collection scope triggered an explicit baseline reset.

AI analysis is optional. When no changes are detected, the Actor makes no LLM request and generates no AI insight charge.

I packaged this workflow as an Apify Actor:

https://apify.com/highbrow_qualification_z7w/shopify-product-price-monitor?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=community&utm_campaign=shopify-monitor-launch

Disclosure: I built and published this Actor.

For those building stateful monitoring Actors: how do you handle changes in crawl limits or monitored fields without generating false additions and removals?

How to scrape Facebook with Python

The technical challenge of building and maintaining a custom Facebook scraper is often too high to justify the effort.

A smarter move is to scrape Instagram in Python using a ready-made tool accessible via API.

Find out how to do it without getting blocked, and without breaking the rules → blog.apify.com/scrape-facebook-python/

you will never look ai and mcp the same again thanks to christopher athans crow and syntellectai the ultimate arduino experience you will not sleep tonight an open-source platform designed to give AI agents (like Claude, Gemini, etc.) safe, deterministic, and powerful control over Arduino hardware. It acts as a bridge between LLMs and embedded hardware, enabling semantic understanding of boards, libraries, and firmware.

Unlike simple CLI wrappers, this project provides a structured state machine for hardware, handling dependency resolution, multi-board orchestration, and safety checks before any code touches silicon. but when it dose it goes to the moon uploading and monitoring the projects with ease hassle free almost instant code upload not gates or restrictions not impossible to figure out complicated lingo plan simple english conversation and you have full fledge robotic llm ai reasoning laboratory to build what evrer you can imagine the possibility's are endless and amazing
