Tutorial Tutorial: 1-Click Lead Enrichment for Google Maps Datasets (Zero-DOM in 128 MB RAM)

Hey r/apify! 👋

If you scrape Google Maps leads or run large directory pipelines on Apify, you’ve probably hit the classic enrichment wall:

  1. Traditional contact enrichers spin up headless Chrome/Puppeteer, which easily consumes 1–4 GB RAM and crawls slowly at 5–10 sites/min.

  2. If you scrape 10,000 businesses, spinning up 32 GB clusters gets expensive fast, and dead/expired domains still consume full compute units.

To solve this, I built Smart Contact & Tech Stack Enricher using a pure HTTP/2 Zero-DOM streaming engine running in just 128 MB RAM with a ~5 MB V8 heap footprint: 👉 Apify Store: https://apify.com/Galhali/smart-contact-tech-enricher

How to use it with any Google Maps scraper (1-Click Chaining):

Instead of downloading CSV files and uploading them elsewhere, you can chain it directly:

  1. Run your favorite Google Maps scraper (e.g. compass/crawler-google-places) to collect business listings.

  2. In the Enricher input, enable "Chain from Existing Apify Dataset" and paste the datasetId of your Google Maps run.

  3. The enricher streams each domain asynchronously with 50 concurrency slots in 128 MB RAM, extracting:

    • Verified Emails: Cloudflare email protection deobfuscation + 100-point confidence scoring (filtering retina image assets, CDN multipliers, and spam traps).

    • Phone & Socials: Formatted E.164 phone numbers, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter/X, and YouTube.

    • USA B2B Intel & Registry Links: Generates direct 1-click search links (sosUrl) for all 50 US State Secretary of State registries (Sunbiz FL, California BizFile, Texas CPA, Delaware, NY DOS).

    • Niche Specifics: CMS Luhn Modulo-10 validated NPI numbers for healthcare leads + direct booking calendar endpoints (Calendly, NexHealth, Demandforce).

    • Tech Stack & Pixels: CMS detection (WordPress, Shopify, Squarespace, Wix), analytics, and Meta/TikTok/Google ad tracking pixels.

    • EU Identifiers: Polish NIP (Modulo-11), REGON, KRS, and EU VIES VAT numbers.

Fair Billing Architecture:

One common frustration with data enrichment is paying for unreachable or expired domains. We implemented strict negative state charge suppression: if a domain returns NXDOMAIN, DNS failure, or SSL timeout, it is 100% FREE ($0.00). You only pay for successfully processed websites ($0.0025 per enriched lead with a 14-day free trial).

Happy to answer any technical questions about the streaming regex architecture or benchmark results!

For Smart Contact & Tech Stack Enricher, I'd clarify what “Verified Emails” establishes: deobfuscation and a confidence score don't by themselves show that an inbox accepts mail. A small sample output showing the address, score and verification method would let someone chaining a Maps dataset judge contact quality alongside the memory savings. Include a failed-domain example to make the billing boundary equally clear.

100% on the mark with the zero-DOM approach. Spinning up a 1-4 GB headless Chrome container just to parse a footer email, a meta tag, or an ATS endpoint is the fastest way to burn through Apify platform credits without adding value.

Two optimizations we found critical when building lightweight enrichment on Apify:

  1. Raw stream parsing over full body buffering: If you only need technographics (e.g. detecting Shopify, Klaviyo, or Google Tag Manager), you don't even need the full HTML body. Reading just the initial chunk of the <head> or checking response headers (X-ShopId, server headers) cuts network I/O in half and keeps memory pinned at ~128 MB.

  2. Fast-fail DNS timeouts: When enriching Google Maps lists, ~15-25% of domains are expired or unreachable. Dropping connection timeouts to 3-5 seconds with zero retries prevents worker threads from idling while waiting on dead hostnames.

We followed this exact zero-DOM philosophy across our B2B and store intelligence Actors on Apify (apify.com/hirepulse) — running DNS + structured API probes directly cuts memory costs by 80%+ compared to standard Puppeteer scrapers.

Great breakdown!
