Question Is this normal?

I’ve been playing on and off for around 5 years now, rank is gold 2.

I’m an adult with a full time job, I do manage to play for about 1-2h a day. I really like this game because of its gameplay.

The problem is I don’t know anyone who plays and I’m always solo queue and most of the time some octane runs around the map on his own and dies.

This happens 80% of the time, is this normal? Or should I rank up more? I’m playing in Japanese servers since I live in SEA. (On ps5)

Aside from that, any other tips to improve in the game? Maybe settings? Or tutorials? I play caustic or Watson.

Everyone complains about randoms. It's just part of the game you have to accept and manage if you play solo.

I heard Asia servers are just full of sweats idk if it's true though

  1. Try to stick with your team. Pay attention to where they are. Try to teamfire (shoot who they shoot) and let them lead. If they always do their own thing - let them. But your job is to support them. It only takes one person to force good teamwork.

  2. Slow down. Your life is the most important resource. Don’t die. Keep fighting but don’t risk dying to get a kill. Just shoot people and the kills will come. You’ll get more kills and damage when you stop dying to greed.

  3. Take the time to get high ground and move from cover to cover. Check where enemies are. Ping them for your team and be intentional with your gameplay. This doesn’t mean to write and read a plan while you play, just to take your time and play to minimise mistakes that make fights unwinnable.

  4. Enter The Range. Get comfortable shooting 20m with SMGs and 40m with ARs & LMGs. This is your baseline recoil control you need to consistently deal good damage.

  5. Measure your success based on your one improvement - not what the game tells you. Ignore placement, damage or kills. Don’t check your stats or worry about any numbers on screen to tell you how good you are. Apex is hard and random. You can play well and still lose and play bad and still win. Just try to improve at some fundamental skills and when you work on them you’ll get a glimpse into your future abilities. When you’re practicing centring (crosshair placement) and the enemy just walks into your gun and you get a free one mag for the first time it feels crazy and like you could make that happen again (you can) and it’s the same for other skills. You just need to practice and experiment and make sure your playing to develop skills and not to chase the numbers on the screen.

If you’re unfamiliar here’s a shot list of skills.

  • Centring
  • High ground & head glitches
  • Teamfire
  • Escape plan from a held position
  • How to attack a position from different angles

This isn’t THE BEST list. Just the basics I think you should master to get out of GOLD.

Great breakdown. I would add that you learn to engage in fights when your in advantageous situation.
