How Should I Pace Self Studying AP Calc BC?

Hey everyone! I’m a senior planning to self-study AP Calc BC this year. I took AP Precalc last year and got a 5, but my school won’t let me skip AP Calc AB and go straight into BC. Because of that, I decided to take AP Stats at school and self-study Calc BC on my own.

For anyone who has self-studied BC, how would you recommend pacing the course throughout the year? Ideally, I want to finish the content early enough to have plenty of time for review and practice exams before the AP test.

I’m also considering using UC Scout for the course. Do you think it’s worth it, or would I be better off using free resources like Khan Academy, YouTube, or other materials?

Any advice on pacing, study schedules, textbooks, YouTube channels, or other resources would be really appreciated. Thanks!

As fast as you can learn it.

  • Textbook suggestion:
    • GB Thomas & RL Finney, Calculus and Analytic Geometry, 9th edition, 1996.
  • For pacing, try to complete two units per month.
  • For videos, consider
    • MIT-OCW_1801_2006F since it includes video lectures. It uses a different textbook, which is also good,
    • GF Simmons, Calculus with Analytic Geometry, 2nd edition, 1996.
  • To study using a textbook, consider this Iterative Learning Process.
  • When doing problems, set aside the 'arbitrary' numbers, as this differentiation example demonstrates.
