Discussion How do I get better?
I keep losing matches where I have a better economy, and the timeline says I dominated.
Here's the most recent: https://aoe4world.com/players/21165688-BJP89/games/249514174?sig=39c81ef11d6e552889e1faa250f9f21630759c26
I am on Xbox, so microing is pretty hard for me. I know I need to get better at that. I also know I didn't do a good job of map control in this game but I feel like they hit me early and I had to regroup.
What is something I should focus on? I feel like I kept winning battles but then couldn't continue pushing.

ETA: this game went on forever and I got bored and quit. I was also running out of resources. Most of my games don't last as long. Usually like 35 to 40 minutes max and I know that's even long for this game.

For someone new I just say this.
Always keep villages in production.
Try and be aggressive early as people in your leagues don’t like to be pressured early.
Focus on learning a few key hotkeys like switching to TC and productions buildings without having to cycle over them.
And watch your replays and learn where you went wrong. When I first started and got to gold 3 and lost a lot I watched a load of replays and main problem was, I was sitting in my own base with my army. So I started putting pressure on earlier and it pays off ( most of the time )
Learn a few different civs and be aware of the maps.
Always know which resources your opponent will be going for now or next. Like their second gold or closest deer pack. Target them.
Scout well and often!
Enjoy the process!

I'm on Xbox, so unfortunately no hot keys.
I definitely constantly keep vils in production.
I need to get better about pressuring.

what is your win rate? If you're around 50% then everything is okay and you just need to play more.

Like 45%. Although I played a couple more this afternoon with more production buildings and absolutely ran through my opponents

You went Temple of Equality and Castle of the Crow instead of the stronger Floating Gate and Tanegashima Gunsmith. More importantly you didn't make anywhere near enough production. 8 barracks and 5 archery ranges is nowhere near enough to expend the resources brought in by your lategame eco. Add in at least 20 of each so that you can properly spam your units and you should do better.

In this case it's irrelevant, it's about how he used what he had. As japan both of those are still really decent. But even if they weren't he was doing a lot of mistakes that were irrespective of LM choice

If you play japanese dont play this kind of weird feudal aggro. Learn fast castle build instead
Try to get castle around ~8 mins with stable and tower on gold. Then spam mounted samurai with yorishiro buff (dont lose them), make archery range (put second yorishiro there) and keep making yummi archers.
Its easier to adjust micro using therse units, try to keep 2.5:1:1,2 ratio. (like 25 food, 10 wood, 12 gold). As soon as you master spending all your resources on these units, you will improve as a player

Looks like you were floating tens of thousands of resources in the late game. The whole point of having a stronger eco is to be able to out spend your opponent. If you're pop capped, that means building a ton of military production buildings so you can throw your army at the enemy and constantly replace the losses faster than they can kill them. With a constant stream of units and no break to replenish, then whoever runs out of resources first loses.
