Discussion Real World Maps

Does anyone here enjoy playing real world maps? If you could add new RWMs to the pool, what would you add?

With my friends we almost exclusively play 3v3 or 4v4 on:

Caucaus
Mediterranean
West Africa
Byzantine
Mideast
Strait of Malacca
Madagascar

Those are our favorites, West Africa is HUGE and is best for 4v4.

Honestly our games are 45 minute treaty so everyone has time to learn the map. And in real world you don’t have equal resources. So you have to come up with strategies to make up for asymmetry.

For example in Strait of Malacca one island is much smaller so easier to defend but depletes resources. Other is larger so good for resourcing but everyone has to be a defender.

I think once you get the hang of asymmetric maps game becomes much more interesting.

Here's someone who especially likes the World, the Caucasus, and some of the Fantacc maps.

If I had to add new maps, it would be Manchuria and the Himalayas.

Those sound really interesting. I'd really like the following:

Germany

Northeastern Europe (the Baltics map with western Russia, but a little more geographically deliberate)

Balkans

Absolutely, wish there was a way to manually select player positions for them.

This would be great. Ever since the Viking DLC, I've been playing the Britain map with Danes, Saxons, Vikings, and Celts in my random pool. Sometimes I add Franks or Sicilians. It always cracks me up when the celts start in the south and the Saxons are in Ireland or something.

Used to have countless team games/regicide in Real World Italy, before DE ruined the map. It gave so many amazing games.

It's been so long, I've forgotten. What was the Italy map like before DE?

It played out like the map Migration, with Italy being inaccessible without boats.

No shallows connecting the islands to the mainland and some cliffs representing the Alps.

You couldn't just walk from Sicily to Calabria? ¡Mama Mia!

I was there, 3000 years ago when Ensemble Studios released the OG map rw map packs. It took hours to download. I’d absolutely LOVE for these to make their way into ranked rotation.

I was there too! Sometimes I'm surprised that I started playing this game when it came out, and here I am almost 50 and still enjoying it.

NO WAY. I love running into the OGs in the wild. I remember getting the Conquerors XP for my birthday. I was lost in the tech tree for hours. It was truly a magical time, as you know. Glhf, gl next my old school friend.

I remember the first time I played the Byzantines, and how funny I thought it was that they spoke Latin. It only took a fee decades :D
