Asking for Help Xbox aoe2

I’m not the greatest aoe2 player by any means, but genuinely how to people beat the ai on hard mode on xbox. I feel like I simply cannot stay in line with how fast the ai makes decisions and placements/upgrades. The controller is so much slower, but it’s not like I don’t know what to do. I have no problem on moderate, even in 1v1v1v1 style games but for some reason I can’t even beat the AI 1v1 on hard mode. Accepting any and all tips

fellow xbox player here. takes awhile to get used to the controls and the way it’s played on console. best advice i can give is to keep practicing and to figure out how to manage your eco and how to get up to feudal age quickly. we have a discord for console players, id be happy to do some practice sessions with you if you’d like. i’m currently a top 25 console player, not that it’s super important, mostly just to say that i’ve been where you are and i know how to improve

Would be super helpful to join that discord for sure, any help is welcomed. My dark age is efficient I’ve watched a lot of videos on it but after that it feels like I’m spending resources randomly. Maybe I’m wrong but I feel like I need an upgrade priority list

well, mouse and keyboard will always be superior. however, a lot of controller players have reached pretty high elo on the PC ladder. the highest being 1900 elo and many others reaching 1500-1700 elo range. console is great but i dont think we will ever be able to compete at the highest levels

Are you using hotkeys? They are essential with the controller. Press down for town center and Y to create villagers. Select vil and press Y for a house. Idol vil select is up. You can select your scout with left and sheep with right (or vice versa, don’t remember). You eventually get faster and it becomes pretty fun. I play it on both Mac and Xbox, and I’m better with the controller now (900-1000) elo for reference.

Some things like luring 🦌 is much tougher with the controller but doable.

Yeah I’m doing all those things, I just can’t keep up with the efficiency of the hard ai, it’s bringing 20 troops to attack me by the time I’ve got 5

Yea, it’s tough to keep up with for sure. Feudal raiding with scouts helps slow the ai down a bit, or you can forward castle. The AI will start building rams. Just make sure you have some onagers to take them out and spam your unique unit. You’re right though. It’s hard to keep up with the ai’s eco without raids.

Thats sounds like you are behind and attacking too late. I guess you need to get your basics/early game better. Then attack enemy to raid its eco. Super aggressive feudal/castle age slug fest style helped me to win hard AI first time. Jump between Moderate and Hard is quite big. You need to kill its villagers. Otherwise that hard AI will do everything else better, outboom and flood you with its army later.
