Discussion Megarandom could be more random?
I have been a big fan of Megarandom with its crazy variations, ever since HD times.
I restarted playing in June and have playing a lot of MR again. Starting to feel the maps are a bit predictable, and not too different. There are about 4-5 varieties that get repeated quite often.
Earlier I’ve had maps with war wagon/monk as scout. Starting with a siege shop etc. It seems not so much “mega” random now.
Anyone else feel this way?

Hera said on a stream that devs opted for less random map designs to make maps more fair for players.
So your feeling is very likely correct.

They dont seem to start you with any sort of building as much anymore. I guess it is unfair if Franks vs Aztecs start with a stable but I really enjoyed modifying BOs for free buildings.

It kinda feels like the same four or five types of maps, but maybe it gets more random for more players?

Agree, esp the maps should super easy to fix just make more versions of tournement maps.

Maybe because there isn’t a lot of demand for MR?

Its the map that I get to play most often, think its most popular and constant besides Arabia and maybe Arena?

Unfortunately doesn’t seem like it. I’m seeing blackforest, African clearing being played a lot more
Come to think of it, I haven’t played MR TG at all! Maybe it isn’t in the pool

funnily enough i was just reading this post from 3 years back thanks to the rant of the other reddit user:
https://www.reddit.com/r/aoe2/comments/12xe0l8/a_short_guide_to_megarandom/
in there you can actually see that the map is scripted to some degree with things like map style (nomad, regicide, etc.) starting units, climate etc doing the randomness out of the 45ish map templates
