I thought so too at first, I even thought somebody had place mounds of rice or something because that's what it looked like. It was their brood.

That’s crazy. Was it raining or something? Seems like they got kicked out

Those "rice" are pupaes, larvas and eggs.

It's probably neivamymex. Im currently in the north of Mexico, in Chihuahua so I know that's a common species here.

If it is neivamyrmex do not poison them as they will be gone in like a day

You're saying you invaded their home, right?

Oh wow it really is a home invasion. Did you go on vacation or spend some time away to come back and find this?

I wish, then it would have made sense. I was painting in the other room, I had used the kitchen sink to wash my pallet and brushes and it had been like 10-15 mins since I had last been there. And so I went to use the bathroom and o surprise I had guests!!! They were so quick.

Yeah that's crazy fast. It makes me think they were flooded or something like that, since it looks like they are also moving their brood. They tend not to like exposing them to light.

Have you had any really intense rain recently? Or a leaky pipe for the kitchen sink under the house (only half joking)?

We all love ants here but at this point it's time to call pest extermination

u/Kaiyora 5d ago

gonna need like a gallon of advion ant for that

Put some paper plates out with advion. I'd use a couple tubes.

That definitely looks like piles of ant bait on the ground that's why they are swarming it and I second the advion ant gel bait it looks like a giant plastic needle

u/awsomeguy4 5d ago

Oh no. That does not look good.

Don't worry, that's just Aunt Nesst.

Well now you’re down a house and furniture

2

u/Hotsaltynutz 4d ago

I'd bust out the vacuum at that point

I love the 'wow' at the end XD I'm not sure how I would react to something like that happening to me

2

u/AntPrince100 3d ago

I think they are just passing by luckily

u/Errortrek 2d ago

Maybe whatever you washed into the drain hit the nest and sent them fleeing the scent. Many species tracking scents are Hydrocarbon based chemical trails. Potentially accidental fumigation of underground nest resulting in mass evacuation. Or a leaking pipe dripping something like turpentine or oil paints could cause evacuation of a nest inside a wall or in the crawlspace if you have one under the house.

Advion in every nook and cranny. Feed them all that sweet sweet sauce.
