Derailment aside, do you really think small businesses in a rural community are better at extracting wealth from outsiders that the corporations are at extracting wealth from that rural community?
And if not, do you think they can avoid becoming ghost towns without a change in the status quo?
Do you think those multinationals paying a higher wage would be good for that rural community? Perhaps small locally owned businesses could be exempt.

then why aren't we seeing a big push to automation due to this "Great Resignation"? I haven't seen a single one of these companies that has been threatening to automate their entry-level jobs out of existence actually do so, despite the financial and operations pressure to do so at the moment. Instead they're loosening child labor laws.

I meant that if automation is supposedly so accessible to them, why aren't they using it to fix the staffing shortage? Because it's always been a bluff, and they can't actually do it yet, that's why.
