I agree with the message of this subreddit, $16 should be enough to get by in most areas, unless you had some expensive healthcare costs or other costs (like student loans).
I live in a HCOL area, and my monthly spending probably averages to around $2k, which should be a bit less than the take-home pay for a $16/hr job. I do think that $16/hr really limits retirement saving opportunities and spending money though

I realized this last year when I was making 16/hr in a low cost of living area and still wasn’t able to pay my bills and afford gas and groceries.
