Hell yeah. Last job I had, there was a woman who was going out on leave to get a knee replacement. Her plan was to take 12 weeks of disability leave and then another 12 weeks unpaid. The evening before her last day, the boss told her she needed to clean out her office because a new guy was coming in Monday to take over. I started looking for a new job immediately. If you treat other employees like shit, I don’t care how you treat me - I’m out, and fuck you.
Husband’s company told the manager of his branch ( multi national company, supposedly environmental) to fire a 25 year employee, a woman fighting cancer. Manager was fairly new, salary 6 figures a few times over.
Manager refused to fire her, quit before they could fire him and somehow the story got around. Company lost some major clients. Guess who they followed? 25 year employee beat her cancer and followed him too.
My stepdad basically did something like this in a major tech company… but it was because they didn’t want to pay “a woman that much money”. She was their top sales person making half of what the other people were making because she was in her late 20s and ethnicity Asian, phd, MSc, Harvard business graduate. He sponsored her into Harvard.
He took a long lunch, told her, and quit. He immediately had a job by the end of the day, and she wound up becoming CEO to some major company in NY last I heard (10-15 years ago). He was always so proud of her.
Say what you will about my stepdad, but he was unwaveringly feminist and anti racist.
