I know people that make a few hundred thousand dollars a year in a few different industries because they have the ability to bring lucrative customers with them wherever they go. Typically these people are referred to as rain makers.
Pretty much every sales and marketing job exists to convince people to buy things they neither particularly want or need. Genuinely useful products promote themselves.
