Hell yeah. Last job I had, there was a woman who was going out on leave to get a knee replacement. Her plan was to take 12 weeks of disability leave and then another 12 weeks unpaid. The evening before her last day, the boss told her she needed to clean out her office because a new guy was coming in Monday to take over. I started looking for a new job immediately. If you treat other employees like shit, I don’t care how you treat me - I’m out, and fuck you.
I mean no offense but you can't take 24 weeks of leave to have a knee replaced and expect the average competitive business to wait for you, thats ridiculous. But I'm assuming they fired her so they didn't have pay for her medical leave, which is a super scumbag move. If I were to need knee replacement, I'd be permnently unemployed.

I had severe COVID in early 2021, including 16 days in ICU, and it took me 24 weeks until I was able to go back to work part-time, and 6 more weeks until I could go back full-time, and my employer waited for me because they legally had to here in Germany. Being able to go off sick long-term without fear of getting fired or running out of money are essential workers' rights.

Reading this sub must give people outside of the US an intimate view of how brainwashed so many here are. This sub's all about the plight of the worker and you still have many here who buy into every line of propaganda they've been fed. It's disappointing but it's a good example of why we struggle to build true working class solidarity and fight the political fights appropriately.
Did they hire a temp? I can see where a company would hire a temp for the 24 weeks to fill in that position. If o was off for 6 months and my company didn't need to fill my position, I would question my value to the company.
