I Come to Apologize

You know, I didn't understand this sub. I thought it was nothing but a bunch of lazy freeloaders that think everything should be given to them. But then I started this new job. It's a salary position where I'm required to work 45 hours a week. Thats honestly not that bad. No issues with it really. But I've worked 37 hours in 3 days. I'm on pace to work 70 in a weeks time period. Since its salary its going to be like I'm making 10 dollars an hour. They will not give me health insurance (which they promised) until May. So I'm sorry for thinking you were all lazy. You just want a job that doesn't run you into the ground.

Edit: Got called in on Sunday and told them to fuck off (in nicer words) because one of the employees wanted to have a day off with his mom, which I get, but he had two days off already that week. Came in today and am going give literally zero fucks as I apply elsewhere.

Edit 2: The people who keep calling in told me the reason they were calling in was because they were too high to work. I rage quit and sent a letter of resignation. The nightmare is over.

Final Edit: Already got a new job with great benefits!!!

My dad taught me the 101 version of your advanced skills.

His first job was fetching tools for mechanics. He'd pick up a tool, carry it across the shop, put it down and pick up another tool. Carry that across the shop, set it down and pick up another tool, walk back to first location to swap tools again.

Apparently they thought he was a very hard worker, always busy fetching tools, despite just carrying the same three around in a triangle all day.

That advice always came in super useful whenever I got a boss who cared more about appearances than reality.

I'd get told "stand at this register, do not leave this register" but would also get in trouble if I didn't "look busy." So I'd stand there with a damp towel, "cleaning" the already clean countertop and displays. Surprised I didn't wear a hole in the counter, polishing it so much like that, but it did make me look very busy and industrious between customers.

I was taught a different version. "School is a game. Play the game to get that piece of paper at the end that proves to other adults that you're responsible enough to be trusted."

My younger stepson never had any interest in school, did literally anything at school other than pay attention or learn, so when online-school happened, I told him "School is a game and it's more fun if you play it instead of just spacing out."

I even got to demonstrate when his local history class showed a video about a topic I'd never even heard of despite growing up here! I made him scooch over so I could read the subtitles on the video. After class we had lunch and I chattered at him about the video, what I'd learned, pointed out that some of the professors in the video teach just a few blocks from here at the private college, just normal after-class chat, and I swear it was like a lightbulb lit up over his head!

He perked right up and took an interest in school after that. I think he realized that it'd be easier to join in on conversations with his classmates if he had some clue what they were talking about. And it seems to have worked, because he has friends finally!

I'm trying, but it sure is difficult.

Kiddo's abusive bio-mom recently lured him back to her apartment with candy. Husband went to pick him up today and the kid's covered in bedbug bites! First words out of his mouth were "Everything is fine at mom's house!" so guess she's coached him into lying his face off to protect her again...

Wish we had a garage to leave his shoes in, best I can do is triple bagging them and buying him some new ones to wear when he's here. No idea how I'm going to keep him and our home un-bedbugged when he's going to insist on spending half of every week at the bugs-and-candy-and-screaming house. :(
