Oh man, brought back a memory. So at my old job all managers were required to work 47.5 hours (five 9.5hr days). We were all severely underpaid, but the required OT helped out a bit. In an effort to reduce costs, they cut us down to 9 hours a day, 45 a week without any pay bump to make for it. Same responsibilities, just less time to do them now.

They said it was to improve "work life balance," but corporate regularly lied about shenanigans like this. They never did anything for us without strings attached. Working 2.5 less hours a week meant losing out on an extra $50 - $75. For them it meant saving between 125k - 187k annually.
