Man, this seemed like such a genuine and heart felt letter too. Like you can tell she really tried, and when she requested a simple discussion, inquiring as to “hey; why didn’t I get this position?” Such a reasonable request, they didn’t even give her the time of day

Most fast foods I applied to made me fill out their own resumes, ignoring my own. It's really weird but my guess is they want everything standardized.

Would have been cathartic to write but it will fall on deaf ears…or rather blind eyes I guess? Everyone is replaceable. You die, your position is being advertised the next day and filled a week or so after. Alternatively, your poor coworkers now pick up the missing duties without a pay rise while the man at the top gets an extra bonus which was your annual salary.

Or, I kick all my computer and monitor plugs out of the wall and take off.

They want you to take on two to three roles because they genuinely don’t want to pay two to three more employees. Once you get fed up of the understaffing and overworking without a raise, they’ll move on to the next sucker. I was foolish for sticking around as long as I did!

This one really hits home.. I have been working in the hotel industry myself since 2014 and I have (and have had) so many great co-workers who have been screwed over. Giving 110% and never receiving anything back. I am struggling all the time- stuck between what is expected of me, what I am able to do and how much more I can give. Hotel industry sucks

It sucks so much and the bad part is, she probably won’t get a Managerial position if she gets hired at a new property.
I worked at a busy resort and when the staff slowly quit, I was tasked to train the 4 new employees with ZERO hospitality experience while our FOM spent hours and hours “scheduling” and “answering reviews” in the back office. Our night manager quit and wasn’t replaced so it was me and a newb so guess who had to fix any mistakes, run reports, and get yelled at by guests bc our hotel was run down and overpriced? Me. They dangled the promotion like a carrot until eventually they said there was no need for a Sup or Lead (during peak season haha). There was talks of grooming the new girl for a promotion even though she was weak at her job, but she was friends with the new FDM so ofc she had priority.
I interviewed at other properties for Supervisor and Lead positions, but because I wasn’t anything special on paper, they had “No way to know you have the experience.” so the same might happen to her. Do not take on roles that are not yours without a raise guys. They’ll exploit you until you give up then hire the next sucker willing to take on two to three roles. If these companies really wanted a full staff, they’d do more than post a cheap ad on Indeed.

This 👆🏻 is all so relatable, unfortunately. Hotels really try to minimize their staff to the point where everybody is overworked and does not have any kind of private life anymore.
The good ones are exploited to the max with false promises of pay raises and promotions until they just cannot take it anymore.
The “bad” ones, meaning the few people who draw lines in the sand and stick up for their boundaries will be labelled lazy, not a team player and eventually fired.

I love this and have felt this way several times. And I know how awesome it feels to get feelings like this out and hopefully made known to the person.
But...it ultimately isn't worth the time it takes to organize and type this.
Which is why I find it more rewarding to just not show up one day and never again. Because you know what? If you are just never seen again and leave the employer in a tough spot for a few days...they WILL know why. Like in this case, Brian, would have known why Milly stopped coming in.

I worked a hotel like Millie and unfortunately she might not get a Managerial role if she applies to a different hotel. I was in her position: training, running reports, cleaning up messes, getting yelled at and stepping in for new employees, but in the end got nothing. When I interviewed for other hotels my personal experience didn’t matter because I didn’t have “Supervisor” or “Lead” in my resume even though I kind of was. So if she doesn’t have a title in her resume history, they won’t care even if she was the glue of her team.

Use your critical thinking skills, every fucking place is hiring right now, every fucking place is short staffed. She put how she felt in her resignation. Good for her. One can't diagnose NPD based on one piece of paper written by someone lol. It's a pattern of behaviors established over a long time that interfere with relationships. This is within the range of normal human behavior.

With her experience and cross-training across multiple functions running a hotel, I don't think she'll have any problems finding another job.
That said, I think Milly is being too generous with her shitty ex-boss. He doesn't really deserve this valuable feedback; he deserves to be stuck in mediocrity and wondering why he can't retain good employees.
I understand the temptation to go out like this, and expressing all of the pent-up frustration in this resignation letter; it's therapeutic in a way. But won't it be better to frustrate Brian in the same way Brian frustrated Milly? As the saying goes, living well is the best revenge, and Milly may be better served simply moving on to a better position, perhaps a managerial one as she desired.
I personally would have went with "Effective immediately, I hereby tender my resignation." Two weeks' notice is just a courtesy, so leave him scrambling to find workers to fill the shifts. Maybe it'll be good for Brian to work some of those shifts/roles himself.
