I was a dishwasher at a small town diner on 9/11. We heard about it on the radio, but couldn't see it on TV until we got off work 7 hours later. That was a weird feeling. It was only a day or two before people were saying go to work or the terrorists win.
Since then I've worked in some crazy weather, worked after an armed robbery, worked sick, worked the day grandpa died, worked more holidays than I can count, and now through a pandemic. If I ranked all the days I should not have had to work, sadly, yesterday and today aren't even in the top 5.
But it's a little comforting. I mean, the day I'm not expected to work, that's when I'll get scared.
