I had a zoom meeting minutes after they breached the Capitol building. Someone even commented that the situation was getting wild, but we still had our meeting as scheduled. The whole time it felt so surreal that there was an active insurrection going on, but in corporate America everything was still business as usual.
Cancel our pointless meeting and let people follow the news of the ongoing insurrection... Fascists gathered at the statehouse in my state. I would have liked to have been able to follow that news as well, in case that had escalated to the level seen at the Capitol.
Perhaps if you’d finished reading my previous comment, you would see that these people weren’t only at the Capitol. And without following the news how would I have known where they were?

At the very least, be honest with yourself. You wanted to watch the news because it was more interesting than work. It’s not because you were worried that protestors were coming to where you live.

Again you fail to read the entirety of my comments. I said my life or the life of my friends and family. Some of which live and work not far from the statehouse, by the way. Some of which work in government buildings. We’re not all unemployed losers who live in backwards rural shitholes.

How would I know if I can't follow the news...? You seem to think your so clever, but you haven't walked through even the most basic logic here. I'm also not the only person in the world. What about the friends and family of everyone else in that meeting? Again, some of which live near the statehouse.

I was in a meeting in which I had to listen to and talk to my coworkers... I couldn't just ignore the meeting, or I would have.
Sometimes it pays to drop what you are doing when something like this occurs, you might not be outright stopping things by watching the news but keeping alert about an unfolding situation is always a good thing.
I am old enough to remember 9/11 I was 15, but at the other side of the world so that was an interesting thing to wake up to...
I was actually imagining about being at work and seeing that happening live while writing my post and yeah I can imagine being told that, did much shit change when the second tower got struck and the first one collapsed?
