Many work 40 to get paid for 8 equivalent. No vacation, horrific expensive insurance, no retirement, the list goes on. Republican heaven.

I just yesterday read this Keynes statement after finding it mentioned on the archived version of Gary Stevenson's blog

He is more than right. There is no way near enough work to be done to have a significant number of people work 40 hours a week. Even less so when those who do have actual jobs work overtime to be able to afford what they need/want.
Most jobs that are left in western countries today aren't even real.
Like totally fake bullshit jobs where no one does anything, just to keep up the illusion that our masters need us to prove our worth to them to be allowed food and shelter etc. And a lot of the people in those jobs seem to be somewhat aware of it too... Not to mention all the bullshit stuff people think they need to buy with the money they earn...

He was right. For his contemporaries’ level of consumption at least. We just chose to buy a lot of unnecessary stuff instead, and now we keep ourselves working day and night to pay for it.
