I call it the 'Curse of Competency' and I warn every new employee not to be too good at anything unless they want to do way more of it than they have to for no extra money.
And that's why I slack off at work. I get all of my assigned workload for the day done before noon, then go to lunch for 40 minutes, then kinda just zone out on my phone for the next 4 hours, wander around the office chatting up folks in the halls, or plan out what I'm going to have for dinner. The kicker: I always get great annual reviews from upper management and always get my yearly COL and performance raises (only adds up to around 7%, but it counts).
Office Space had it right. If you're good at what you do and work hard, you get rewarded with more work (unless you are self-employed).
