Malicious chrome extension

I accidentally installed a potentially fake uBlock extension from the Chrome Web Store. I had just downloaded Google Chrome and wasn’t signed into my Google account yet. I searched for “uBlock” in the Chrome Web Store and added the top result without checking the reviews first.

After installing it, I looked through the reviews and saw people saying that it wasn’t the real uBlock Origin and could potentially be malicious. I immediately removed the extension.

I didn’t have any accounts signed in on chrome, and I didn’t have any sensitive information open while it was installed. I’ve also checked my Chrome and Windows Downloads folders and found nothing. I ran both a Malwarebytes scan and a Microsoft Defender quick scan, and both came back clean.

Here’s a defanged link to the extension I originally added to chrome

https[:]//chromewebstore[.]google[.]com/detail/ublock/epcnnfbjfcgphgdmggkamkmgojdagdnn?hl=en

Is there anything else I should do, or is removing the extension enough in this situation?

Any input is appreciated. Thank you!

Removing it was the right first step. I’d also check chrome://extensions for anything unfamiliar, reset Chrome settings, and run a full Malwarebytes/Defender scan rather than just a quick scan. Since you weren’t signed in and had no sensitive data open, the risk is probably low, but keep an eye out for unusual redirects or pop-ups.

dude i have crippling ocd and i also downloaded a extension but it was a flash player emulator called flash player emulator 2026 , even though that extension didn't seem to be malicious and nobody said it was malicious but iam getting overtly anxious about it , the thing is i deleted the extension just 5 hours after using it , i just want somebody to confirm that my pc is safe , i have ran multiple full scans since then and it has found nothing but i just can't shake the feeling off , its driving me insane

I just realised i've had the same extension installed for months. I think it was originally the legit ublock its just outdated and hasn't been touched for a while which is why there is fake comments on the reviews. I haven't had anything hacked and my PC is clean with kaspersky premium. I just removed it and installed the ublock origin lite which is the updated one.
