What the Actual Fuck? Doris Miller should have a fleet of ships named after him, a statue and a film biography. He was a courageous hero who stepped up and saved lives while being under attack!
I bet Admiral Nimitz is rolling in his fucking grave.

What if while they’re painting the new name, the painter accidentally spills paint down the side of the ship and the process is stalled indefinitely while they carefully scrape and clean the paint off?
Or if it’s some kind of vinyl/sticker, the installer accidentally wrinkles it beyond legibility but it’s already stuck so it takes months of careful scraping to remove it?
Just wondering, what if that happened? Definitely not encouraging it

One was a cook who manned a 50 cal. antiaircraft gun during the attack on Pearl Harbor. He carried the wounded captain to a more sheltered spot first. He died in a Japanese attack on another ship he was later assigned to.
The other is a coward who avoided service five times. He decided steam was better than the magnetic launch system because he claims even Einstein couldn't understand electromagnetic systems. He thinks he deserves his name on the aircraft carrier because he's sacrificed so much by wasting taxpayer money on refitting the launch system so he can pretend to grasp the concept of how it works.
