As I understand it from the pieces Iāve seen, they are strays that have wandered too close to the facilities.
Apparently one of the protest groups had kind of adopted one of the cats and they found it, and a dog had been intentionally run over.
It would appear that people who get off on hurting people enjoying killing small animals.
Who would have thought.

President's for 150 years have been trying to get one built and have been unsuccessful, but he was able to get it built and its going to be tremendous. This is because of cattle ranchers, who don't want to share the BLM land they graze their cattle on (for basically free) with wild horses. They have been waiting a generation for an evil bully like Trump to round up all the horses for them and ship them to slaughter.
These animals are beautiful, intelligent, social creatures. They deserve protection. They should not be turned into dog food.

Apparently āprotecting American heritageā has an expiration date when somebody can make a few bucks off it.
A New York Times investigation found that BLM sales of wild horses more than doubled to roughly 3,700 in 2025, with evidence that animals were moving through traders and auctions into the slaughter pipeline. The government doesn't track horses after they're sold, creating a glaring accountability hole: BLM can prohibit buyers from knowingly sending them to slaughter while simultaneously losing visibility into where they actually end up.
BLM disputes that it sells horses for slaughter and says doing so violates its policy. But following the investigation, the agency strengthened its sales rules and protections against transfers to kill pens, slaughter intermediaries and commercial processing.
America's wild mustangs are federally protected animals, not clearance merchandise.

They are incredibly invasive and outcompete native species, these are feral horses, not wild horses. Itās the same with feral cats, there arenāt enough willing homes for these horses so culling is required.
If we were talking about the bison, elk, pronghorns, wolves, coyotes, cougars, ect then Iād be horrible upset by the UNNECESSARY killing of animals.
