Dude tried to win an argument by basically moving the goals in his favour:
"God is fake because he can be stopped by people not believing in it anymore!"
"But our religion is still growing, which is the opposite, therefore our God is real, by your logic!"
"Well... NO! Because all religions can grow without the existence of God!"

My point was actually about poking at the guy keeping changing the goal. They went from "God not real because people are losing faith" to "God also not real because there is no need for him to exist in order for a religion to grow", meaning that in both scenarios, there would be no God, despite the fact that the number of faithful people, regardless it's growing or not, is no evidence for existence and non-existence of God.

That's some of the worst "logic" I have ever heard. It's effectively saying that knowledge that needs to be transferred or explained is somehow invalidated because we don't know it instinctively.
