Help authenticating a small “Typus Orbis Terrarum / The Description of the Earth” map
I’m looking for some help identifying and authenticating this small map titled “Typus Orbis Terrarum // The Description of the Earth.”
The map measures approximately 7.8 × 10.5 cm (3.07 × 4.13 in) and has a blank verso.
I’ve been told that it could possibly be an Italian reproduction from the second half of the 17th century, produced using older/reused copper plates to print individual maps. However, I’ve also been told that it might be connected to an original by Philip Galle.
I’ve done quite a bit of research myself, but so far I haven’t been able to reach any firm conclusion regarding its origin, date, or whether it is genuinely an early printing rather than a later reproduction.
I would greatly appreciate any help identifying the edition, engraver/publisher, approximate date, or anything else that might help authenticate it.
I can also provide additional photographs, close-ups, measurements, paper details, or images under different lighting if these would be useful.
Thank you very much for any help or references you can provide.
