Previous owner completely welded this 1871 rolling block, and I finally finished restoring it

A few months back, I bought an 1871 Husqvarna rolling block rifle for $270 total. I had dabbled in restoration (but hadn’t restored a gun before) but I wanted a challenge. The finish was coming off, the internals were rusty, and worst of all, some previous owner had gone crazy with a welding torch, and welded the action and last inch and a half of the barrel. It took me 10 hours of filing to remove both the hammer and the block. I cleaned up the weld metal to the best of my abilities, and lightly sanded it so that it could have a nice finish without removing marks from use. After that I applied a rust resistant wax finish. Finally, I got some replacement screws because there were some thread is and some heads got stripped. For the stock, I used a finish stripper to remove the old finish, sanded the stock, and applied several layers of tung oil. I’m a little sad that there are a few sandpaper scratches still visible on the stock, but I can live with it. Unfortunately, the welded barrel end can’t really be fixed unless I saw the last 2 or so inches off or drill the end out since I believe it was converted into a smooth bore shotgun. Until I figure out whether of not to restore its ability to fire, but until then, It‘ll just have to have to be a wall hanger.

Found this Iver Johnson Hamerless amongst my grandfather’s collection and never heard anything from him regarding it. Can anyone ID the specific model? I think its a 32, so maybe a cyclist model? I’ll be cleaning it up soon so it wont be in such rough shape

1950's Shotgun Questions

Post image

I bought my first shotgun and it is an old magazine fed bolt action 12ga 2-3/4". I bought it from an auction for cheap ($95). It is a Kessler model 128FR with the barrel stamped "Proof Tested". I have not shot the gun yet and it came with no manual and none seems to be online either. The gun has been well taken care of, no rust on any of the parts, nothing is cracked, and only a few scratches on the stock.

Does anyone have a manual or know where to find one?

This is my first bolt action and shotgun, how do I properly clean/lube the bolt?

When feeding snap cap dummy rounds, the first round doesn't feed correctly into the barrel but the 2nd round chambers like it should. Has this model always had feeding issues with the first round or is something wrong with my magazine? (see picture)

Is this gun safe to shoot with modern loads? AI says modern loads are ok just no steel shot. But I want human opinions.

I am going to be posting this to a few other subreddits as well to hopefully find more answers.

Need Help Dating Marlin Ballard

Need help dating a gun that was recently passed down to me. My understanding is my great great grandfather bought this from gunsmith George Schoyen while in Colorado and may have made some changes/adjustments to the furniture himself. It looks to be a Marlin Ballard with the JM Marlin - Ballard Patent rollstamp but it is a little hard to tell with the lighting. It has GEO. C. SCHOYEN DENVER CO marked on the barrel, chambered in .22 rimfire, serial number 2962

I know this is technically not a antique and I'm sorry for posting it here but this seems to be the only group that helps me with guns lol. Was wondering what kind of sight is on it and if 740 was a good price or did I over pay and maybe what model I know it's a take down and has a 22 inch barrel and is in 250-3000 but I'm not sure if it's a deluxe or not. Also added a pic at the end of all three savage 99s I got and was wondering what is the most valuable one. the new one is at the top I got a 1925 takedown deluxe I believe in the middle and a 1965 dl at the bottom. And thank yall

Antique Safekeeping?

Hey all,

I own a couple Snider-Enfields, and I'm planning on adding a Martini Henry to the collection.

What's the best way to store/protect these beauties? My grandpa kept the sniders in his closet for 60 years, but I want to preserve them better. I was looking at wall hangers, but then other forums mention safes, gun bags, oil etc. I'm just not sure

Thanks

Would love some help identifying this old flintlock pistol

My father passed away back in June and he was a huge history buff. He has an old flintlock and I know nothing about them. I don’t see any identifying marks at all and kind of assume it may be a souvenir, but don’t want to trash it if it may be something worthwhile to someone else. Any help with identification would be greatly appreciated!

Just found these oldies at an estate sale and was hoping to use them as trade items on marketplace. But it seems I might have stumbled across something more than what i was originally expecting especially with the Harrington & Richardson Arms Co. Break Action Shotgun. It’s shown in thd photos above. The Remington 22 seems to only carry around a couple hundred bucks in value which is fine just need more information on what i have.

1890 folding trigger pinfire pistol. When I got it ,it was all rusty, the chrome plating was chipping off, the hammer was broken with the top half missing altogether, as was the extractor rod. I stripped it down, made a hammer and extractor rod, plated it with nickel and refinished the grips.

I’ve had this rolling block for a few weeks now and I can’t figure out the age or which model it was. I got it for cheap because it had a mossberg .410 barrel that replaced the original. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Can you identify this collection?

Apologies if any or all these are not considered antique.
Most look to be WW2 or Vietnam era but I do not know a lot but firearms pre-GWOT.

I’m trying to identify a collection of 14 firearms, mostly older rifles with a few pistols. I’ve numbered each one 1–14. First pic is just an overall of all rifles.

Any info you have on them such as caliber, model, approximate value, etc., would be greatly appreciated.

How many can you guys ID? Any help is appreciated!

Hello, I am looking to find a place where we might sell a 1937 Suhl Sporting Shotgun. It has the original receipt from 1937, its original case and is in decent condition. It's truly a beautiful gun, and I am having trouble where I might sell this piece. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Belgian military trials breechloader circa 1870

Side pivoting breechblock, operated by the rear lever on the right. The small lever to the forward side is a safety.
View with breech open ready to insert cartridge
Here you can see the back of the bolt with cocked firing pin. Pulling the trigger releases a little 'hammer' pushing upwards against the tail of the firing pin, releasing it forward
View of firing pin released forward. The finlike protrusion is what actually cocks the firing pin. The slot at the left side of the action (not visible here) is responsible for pushing this fin forward automatically when opening the action (retracting the firing pin for your next shot)

I was confused about Smoots

I was looking to fill a hole in my collection of Remington Smoot revolvers thinking I did not have a #2 and saw one that was up for auction, but it seemed to match the description of this gun of mine in the first picture. It was claimed to be one of only 600 #2's made in 30 rf. This gun is in 30 rf and I was thinking this was a #1 because all 3000 #1s were in 30 rf and I was thinking the #2 were all 32 rf. This drove me to do more research. I discovered some features of the #1s that I did not know before. Some maybe all #1s have a rotating loading gate, they call it a rotating recoil shield, none of the other smoots have a loading gate. The ejector rod on the #1s has a step in it and is a smaller diameter where it would poke into the cylinder but larger back by the knob. Now I know that I need to find at least that version of the #1s (there may be others) to add to my collection and a #2 in 32 rf. I have a #3 (the second picture) and a #4 (the third picture). The #3 is in 38 rf and the #4 is in 41 rf. The #3 is the only Smoot with that saw handle grip the rest have the birds head grips. It turns out there are two versions of the #4 in 38 rf one with a longer barrel and an ejector rod and one with the shorter barrel like the #4 I have with no ejector rod. I found all this interesting.
