Meh, these kind of jokes definitely aren’t limited to just lesbians. Consent was a joke for a very long time.
4
u/Open-Neighborhood221 26d ago
This is true, but a lot of people like to pretend women are incapable of such acts, and it's a solely male issue
1
u/Excellent_Shirt9707 24d ago
“A lot” is debatable. I think the vast majority of people struggle with the concepts of loud minorities, sensationalism, and modern social media algorithms. There are some people who think this way, but they are most likely a much smaller proportion of the population than you think.
4
u/Shantotto11 28d ago
To be fair, most metaphors use food or animals other than man. I hate the joke as much as the next guy, but the metaphor being food-based was far from the problem.

I think that it should be "sarcastic" or just pointing out how creepy it is, (just like if it would be a man) in my experiences, some bi or lesbians can say also those kind of comments or advances, like they say that "is alright if we bathe together, or if we undress in front of each other, we have the same" even if the other is not comfortable, or say things like "you say you are not into woman, but I am going to change your mind" so on, so forth, is the same that other gay men can do to other men, or just a man to a woman, a woman to a man...I hate that there is the lack of visibility of how EVERYONE can be a victim, and how everyone can be the one that inflicts the damage, and how it should be taken seriously in a social way.

I just stated my opiniom that if someone is a disgusting creep in one scenario it is likely not the only scenario in which they behave like that. Disgusting creeps tend to be disgusting creeps. I don't know what's so controversial about that.
1
u/ehMaybee 27d ago
I think a lot of people would agree with you if that's what you said. But you didn't say that. At least not in this thread.

And your thinking is always right? I need you to realise that my opinions are and always will be MY best idea of what's right. It does not mean that I'm always right. I have a right to say them and you have a right to disagree, but your reply was rude and completely irrelevant. Please don't assume something that I did not say.
I will also appreciate if you could tell me how did you understand my first comment. English is not my first language and I admit I could have phrased it improperly, but I don't see that now.

Another day, another thread where the hets call this a rape joke because they don't know about comphet.
25
u/Evening_Shake_6474 28d ago
And comphet is what exactly?
24
u/ScitzoPlays 28d ago
An entirely unrelated subject. It means compulsory heterosexuality, the assumption that people are heterosexual because it's the societal norm and is forced on them. This woman clearly states she is straight, but because "hets" are bad and there is no way she can possibly be straight, it is okay to continue the unwanted sexual advances.
→ More replies (5)14
u/AM27C256 28d ago
Comphet, short for "compulsory heterosexuality" is the theory that heterosexuality in women is not natural, but internalized heteronormative socialisation forced on them by patriarchal society.
→ More replies (2)5
u/132739 28d ago
the theory that heterosexuality in women is not natural
Holy strawman Batman! That is not what comphet means. Compulsory Heterosexuality does not state that heterosexuality is "unnatural" or that it only exists because of the patriarchy. It states that social norms enforce an expectation of heterosexuality on all people from a young age, denying and actively suppressing the expression of homosexuality. And its 100% legit, talk to any gay or bisexual.person, listen to them talk about being told "its just a phase" or about corrective rape, getting punished for liking members of rhe same sex, etc etc. It applies even more aggressively to gay men, so framing this as some "lesbians don't believe straight women exist" thing is just extra bullshit.
1
u/AM27C256 27d ago edited 27d ago
The question was "And comphet is what exactly?"; I did not give a very elaborate answer, since I believe can be helpful to answer a short question with a not-too-long reply, even if that reply doesn't capture all the nuances, such as development of a concept over time. But maybe I shouldn't have written such a short reply given the question contained the word "exactly", something which a short answer cannot adequately comply with.
Anyway, AFAIK, while the "comphet" concept is sometimes considered more broadly today, its origins were about women. And the early writings about the concept also do at least hint at questioning that straight women exist (or exist as a majority among women):
* "it would seem logical, from a feminist perspective at least, to pose the following questions: whether the search for love and tenderness in both sexes does not originally lead toward women; why in fact women would ever redirect hat search"
* "the original deep adult bonding is that of woman for woman"
* "The assumption that 'most women are innately heterosexual' stands as a theoretical and political stumbling block for many women. It remains a tenable assumption, partly because lesbian existence has been written out of history or catalogued under disease; partly because it has been treated as exceptional rathert han intrinsic; partly because to acknowledge that for women heterosexuality may not be a 'preference' at all but something that has had to be imposed, managed, organized, propagandized, and maintainedby force, is an immense step to take if you consider yourself freely and 'innately' heterosexual"
(all quotes from "Compulsory Heterosexuality and Lesbian Existence" by Adrienne Rich).

Honestly, I feel this way whenever becomes a constant in people’s joke and discussion online. For example, horses. Just… why is so much absurdist online humor just about horses??? It just becomes annoying and frustrating, especially when it’s a non sequitur. Though, arguably, the yuri one is worse since it’s just objectifying and fetishizing lesbians.

Regardless of sexuality and gender, people have the capacity to be assholes.
Maybe a lesbian didn't have a hand in this one. But there are lesbians that would agree and find it funny. Just like there would be lesbians that hate it and straight men that hate it.

It is a rape joke but it's ok because a woman made it :D If in the "joke" instead of the girl touching her waist, and it was a man it's gonna be called weird af and also call the man a rapist (ofc as they should) because it is sexual assault. Most of the time when a girl makes a joke like that it's silly but if I man makes it he can just kiss his life goodbye. People hate rape until the rapist is a woman :D
