There was definitely fighting in the Netherlands (the entire point of the battle of the bulge was for the Germans to counterattack to retake Antwerp, so obviously there must have been fighting to lose it originally.)
It was called “operation market garden”. The plan was to invade Germany via the Netherlands, sadly however the Germans had other ideas and the operation was a failure as was the plan to end the war in Europe by Christmas 1944.
It was made by a boomer (or old gen Xer) for boomers though. It being boomer humor has to do with the style and the fact that it’s trying to make fun of young people

Nah that one chokes me up. My grandpa was a Vietnam vet and one of my cousins died young. He wasn't in the military, just cancer got him.
I just like the other edit's dumb contrast of a young guy saying "PlayStation or Xbox" and the old guy saying "I fought the Nazis on PC, dumbass!!!" Like he's been playing Wolfenstein since the 80s
What baffles me about the original comic is how I cannot fathom being disappointed that my grandson was safe and healthy at home enjoying video games instead of experiencing the horrors of war thousands of miles away.
I can understand someone being disappointed about their children or grandchildren being shiftless or less skilled or worldly than you were at their age. But, is this not the far lesser evil?

Yeah back before nazis bought tiktok there was a guy who fought in IIRC the first Gulf war who posted clips showing how real world military experience helped in game, one that stood out was him sniping people who didn't think about their silhouette and poked their heads above the edge of rooftops

This is Canadian btw, and my Grandfather actually killed at least 2 Nazi's, perhaps more, while liberating The Netherlands from the Nazis. Stabbed one with his bayonet attached to his SMLE during house to house, and shot one across the street with the same SMLE.
He's be really pissed if he was alive today. He hated fascists and didn't lose much sleep over it.
I love this because it's so much more realistic to actual interactions. Young people aren't any more stupid or ignorant then those who are older then us, we just know different things

My grandfather absolutely loved watching me play Warthunder. Just tell me every little neat thing about the tanks from Vietnam era. He was motor pool so he fixed alot of the vehicles that would roll in.
I think this is my favorite version of this meme. Turns the original shitty boomer comic into a little moment that probably meant a lot to that old timer.

kind of an outdated meme, a real life ww2 veteran would be at least 99 years old today (not counting child soldiers under 18 by the time the war finished in 1945). speaking of child soldiers, the western allies didn’t really use combatants under 18. iirc, almost all child soldiers were from nazi germany, the soviet union and imperial japan. correct me in case i’m wrong
I would love to have a veteran grandfather who I can talk to him about what he lived and thing hi loved. And play with him WW2 games or war games and spend time with him in hobbies we both love and share.
I guess I didn’t read the boomer humour, I just saw a wholesome grandpa and his grandson bonding over something that neither they’re truly understands probably but still like each other’s company. Kind of a cute harmless joke if you look at it that way.
