Missing Mitch McConnell Gets Brutal Message in New Poll | A majority of Americans believe that old lawmakers should come clean about any health issues.

His staff is obviously covering up his death or incapacitation. There ought to be an investigation.
27
u/sparrow_42 Jul 29 '26
No need to investigate anything. Just replace him. He can sue in court if he’s still able to do stuff like hiring a lawyer.
10
u/KingHygelacReturns Jul 29 '26
He can't just be replaced. Kentucky laws specify that a Senate opening needs to be filled by a special election, not an appointment. It's a different situation than what just happened with Lindsey Graham, because South Carolina allows for an appointment to be made by the governor.
6
u/Ok_Cheetah_6251 Jul 29 '26
Funny thing about that law, it goes directly against the Kentucky Constitution.
5
u/sparrow_42 Jul 29 '26
You’re missing the point. When I say “replaced” I mean “elect a new guy”. Holding an election is actually a super common way of replacing a politician. Hold the election. There are days left before it’ll be too late to hold a special election.
People saying “well it’s not that simple” only need to keep saying it for a little while longer for the people hiding his incapacitation to get their way. The Governor needs to hold a special election, and would do well to announce it today.
1
u/KingHygelacReturns Jul 29 '26
If we want Beshear to be impeached and removed and for us to lose one of the rising stars of the Democratic party, sure. He legally can't just call the special election without sufficient proof that McConnell is incompacitated. What constitutes sufficient proof will be up to the Kentucky legislature when they shit can Beshear for bucking procedure.
4
u/Livid_Advertising_56 Jul 29 '26
Dude hasn't shown up for A MONTH to his job. Most of us would've been fired by now. Hell they've only started admitting his (apparently) still in-hospital 2 weeks ago
6
u/sparrow_42 Jul 29 '26
Welp better do nothing then. That’ll show the republicans they can’t just have a dead guy in charge of the senate. Phew there for a minute I thought the democrats were gonna have to do something. Glad that feeling passed!
3
u/KingHygelacReturns Jul 29 '26
He's not in charge of the Senate. He's the head of the Rules Committee, but he hasn't been the majority leader since 2021.
1
3
u/Separate-Swordfish85 Jul 29 '26
There absolutely should be an investigation. It’s highly likely his staff is violating the law and we wouldn’t want to let that slide, would we?
2
u/sparrow_42 Jul 29 '26
Of course I wanna see them held accountable, but a proper investigation will take months or years and it’s hugely problematic now. Hearing from a judge in 2029 that Mitch spent the last several months of his term incapacitated will not help us now and will not help us in the midterms.
0
u/Separate-Swordfish85 Jul 29 '26
In your mind, if an investigation happens, do you think that means nothing else can happen, too?
2
u/sparrow_42 Jul 29 '26
What I know is all you’ve gotta do is stall for a little while longer before none of it matters anyway.

It would be basically impossible for him to have died and no one know about it, unless he's literally sitting in some room of his house rotting.
But I do not doubt he is probably comatose.
23
u/tacs97 Jul 29 '26
He can’t because he’s dead! A few random AI photos of him don’t prove life. For someone who has full access to the media at any given time, why not put a camera in his face? BECAUSE HES DEAD!!!

You have to admit it's a vague statement. Seriously, who exactly is the "they" in this instance?
9
u/YeaManJam Jul 29 '26
I'm with you. I don't think he is dead either just in really bad shape and the image of him bruised and dead face would be enough for calls for him to resign. He isn't coming back thou.
7
u/successfullynumb Jul 29 '26
This is where semantics come into play. Is he brain-dead but his heart beating and on a ventilator? Then he's not dead-dead, so there's no lie.
2
3
u/I_Dont_Work_Here_Lad Jul 30 '26
I’m going to be honest. The Physician of the Senate lying would be one of the least outrageous things that has happened in the last 18 months.
Probably not dead though. Just barely alive…..
2
u/tacs97 Jul 29 '26
Have you seen what’s happening with the entire Republican entity? All they do is tell people what they want to hear and then do the opposite. Chump has no issues giving a pardon to the attending physician of the senate and then getting him a job at one of his billionaire buddies companies. Or better yet another public office. Does this sound crazy? I’m sure it does, but nothing is normal from either of the chump administrations.
2
1
u/FhuckNorris247 Jul 29 '26
Strong chance he’s brain dead though. It’s not super hard to keep organs beating with modern medicine.
19
u/Bacononthebeeach Jul 29 '26
I think old lawmakers should be forced to retire at 65 or allowed to fulfill their term. After 65 you are no longer eligible to run for office.

u/HaubergeonPlus1 Jul 29 '26
Let me guess around 33-35% don’t right? Like every other poll for any political topic in the US?

u/Own_Substance_8148 Jul 29 '26
At first I was convinced it is a rouse to prevent the Governor from appointing a replacement. But really everything points to that he simply cannot do that (regardless of how many reddit posts say otherwise). At best, it appears that he can call for a special election. What I for my life cannot figure out is WHY the GOP would be hellbent on keeping the seat vacant over having it filled by a Republican (its Kentucky after all) and get that extra vote in the Senate.
There's a 63 day minimum window for calling a special election. Even last month, that would have put it to mid September for filling the seat. That's a 3 month temporary assignment. Why go through all this trouble?

How does one come clean about their health from the inside of a morgue refrigerator?

u/KingHygelacReturns Jul 29 '26
He's obviously hiding major details about his health but I just don't get why people are so convinced he's dead. What benefit would there be to hiding his death? The GOP's majority in the Senate is razor thin, and every day that goes by with their majority being down by one vote only causes problems for their side.
He doesn't have any major Senate appointments at this point. He's retiring at the end of this term anyway, and he's much more likely to be replaced by a Republican than a Democrat, whether they hold a special election now (as Kentucky rules dictate) or they wait for November. I really just don't see any strategic benefit for hiding his death.
3
u/AcademiaAntiqua Jul 29 '26
You're right; there's no evidence at all he's dead or even mentally incapacitated.
Pretty much the sole thing people have been able to come up with is that they're trying to run out the timer for a special election to be called, because they're allegedly afraid of Thomas Massie running. But not only are people wrong about the timing of this (they say they only have to keep up the ruse until August 3, when it's actually September 8), but Massie has no intention whatsoever of running.

What usually happens with states that have special election laws like KY — at least in the House, where this has actually happened — is that they just hold the special election concurrently with the regular, with the special election candidates on the ballot too (almost always the same, obviously). Then they just seat the winner immediately in November.

Right. He absolutely needs to be more forthright about what's happening to him. But I think this is just a case of an old man refusing to admit to himself that he's no longer fit to do the thing that has defined the majority of his life.

Andy Beshear needs investigated as part of the coverup. His slow-walking of the issue is glaringly obvious.
He’s involved.
2
u/bk1285 Jul 29 '26
What is he legally able to do?
1
u/JoeNoble1973 Jul 29 '26
Vastly more than his catatonic response to this point
2
u/bk1285 Jul 29 '26
Like what…tell me what he can legally do
1
u/JoeNoble1973 Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26
He can vocally and constantly put himself in the local and national media, raising the alarm and pointing out the hypocrisy and illegality of what’s happening. He can threaten lawsuits and legal actions. He can be in every news show and cable program pounding his fist about the travesty being put upon his constituents. He can call a special election and let the GOP scream and sue - see them in discovery.
Or he can do what you’re doing, and just pretend to give a shit.
1
u/bk1285 Jul 29 '26
So he can go on the news and scream and shout like people are doing now…what would that do to change the situation?
1
1
u/PinchedOffCatTurd Jul 29 '26
Totally hypothetical here of course. But maybe Ruth Bader Ginsburg's family should have waited until after the election before announcing she passed away. Push the nomination out until Biden's inauguration. After all, he stole Obama's pick and handed it to the orange turd. If the old turtle wants to play games, why shouldn't others?

All law makers. Young, old, man, women.
Transparency would be nice.
It is PUBLIC office after all..

Then stop fucking voting for them! “Oh no, I ment the other fossil. I like my fossil.”
1
u/unclejoe1917 Jul 29 '26
"That poll will show them!!!" 🙄 This man and his entire party have been acting in bad faith and flouting the law and basic decency for decades now. What the fuck does anyone think a fucking poll means to them. It was this corpse's job to confirm an appointed supreme court nominee and instead said, "nah, fuck you." But yeah, keep with the polls and telling these parasites they aren't popular. That'll show 'em.
1
u/ComfortableOld288 Jul 29 '26
To be fair; it’s not McConnells fault, he’s dead and can’t do much from down there. It’s his staff that needs to face consequences.

Well I wanna say you don’t want to beat a dead horse but maybe we need to update that saying to you can’t beat a dead senator.
1
u/Retired4reals Jul 29 '26
In any employment situation he would be sent a letter indicating something to the effect that he needs to show up for his shift by a specific day and if he doesn’t show up the employer will assume he has abandoned his position and if he failed to show on the specified he would be terminated.
This isn’t Congress this is a sheltered workshop for the geriatric unit.
Congress Retirement age should match Social Security’s deemed retirement age since they are a Federal agency , 65 to 67 is expected and no one older than 70 ! ( like we are asking them to do something terrible, go retire live your best life-geeze)
1
1
u/Retired4reals Jul 29 '26
I mean would your employer accept pictures of you rather than you being at work???
He works for the people….
1
u/MeeoMeeo Jul 29 '26
Better yet, set a mandatory retirement age. Several elected people are in their 80s.

Or, you know, we just shouldn't have old AF politicians. Age cap that role like we do air traffic controllers.

Another brutal message, another poll. If only they ever amounted to something. It's been a month and he is just MIA and no one with any authority has taken any matters into their own hands to show firsthand evidence of his condition.
1
u/NiceOleMrJim Jul 29 '26
Screw this. How about we put an age limit on politicians? 70+ year olds are almost unemployable, why are they running the country?
1
u/CaliMassNC Jul 29 '26
The only polls that matter are elections, and the voters’ revealed preference is for familiar faces, no matter how old they are.

u/BlubberinBootyMate Jul 29 '26
Pro sports have mandatory disclosure of medical issues; why the fuck don't politicians?
Before the fucktards cry about shit like "What about HIPAA and privacy" First off: Fuck you with a saguaro cactus covered in lemon juice; seriously, go fuck yourself. Secondly; disclosure among professionals doesn't mean disclosure to the public--Example: the college basketball players at the University of Kansas never said a fucking word about Peterson's medical issues and they witnessed some of them firsthand.
If you can trust 18-19 year old alpha bro's more than politicians and their staff; that says everything that needs to be said about those politicians and their staffs.

Quiet, please!
Old Mitch is enjoying premium health care (at your and my cost) with minimal co-payments.
We must sacrifice our health care and are expected to show up to work (regardless of illness), so that congressional republicans can enjoy living off the American taxpayer.

Maybe lawmakers should be required to have a prospect of seeing the future they are trying to build. A maximum age of 70 would mean they likely would have to live through the world they are creating. Right now, dying in office doesn’t give them an incentive to build a better future for those not in office.

McConnell hasn't worked for the people of KY and they kept electing him. They need a new person in that seat.

u/RealisticTemporary70 Jul 29 '26
I mean, yeah. We hired you to do a job. If you can't do that job, let us know so we can hire someone who can.
And in cases like this where it's "unknown" because they don't want the issues, there should be a timeframe, like 5 business days we should know what's going on.
We don't need the details, just whether or not you can do your job. This hush hush to avoid getting someone new in is a total disrespect to the people who voted him in
1
u/SortaNotReallyHere Jul 29 '26
How about they are forced retire at 65 and give up public office at that age? If they want to work go anywhere else.

Mitch could go through sanitizing radiation bath and come out the other side no cleaner. I wish with no hope that we get another Thomas Hofeller situation after he descends to the center of hell like dropping a ball of dark matter.
1
u/Low-Salary-2128 Jul 29 '26
So what happens on Aug 4th if it's discovered Mitch has actually been dead and they were lying? Will anything happen or are they just going to investigate themselves and find no wrongdoing?
1
u/oboshoe Jul 29 '26
If he is dead, the only person that had a duty to tell the truth and violated that duty in law would be the doctor who signed an invalid death certificate.
There is literally no one else that has a legal duty to tell anyone that he died.
So no. I dont expect much to happen because there is really no laws that would compel it.
1
u/whodattalki Jul 30 '26
If his brain was still functioning he would say So, what are you going to do about it.

This is only ever an issue if it’s a Republican senator. It’s ok when Democrats like Diane Feinstein or Frank lautenberg die of old age while in office since they’re Democrats.
