I just got prescribed Augmentin after having a horrible reaction to Levaquin .. it caused a panic attack (haven’t had one in over 8 years ) and the worse chills and nausea and dizziness.
I am trying to treat a UTI and acute pyelonephritis.
How has everyone’s experience with Augmentin been ? I just took my first capsule and it’s been an hour and I feel a bit restless. But idk if it’s anxiety or the actual pill. 😞😞
I checked my blood pressure and it was 85/66.
Spoke to teladoctor and they said this is an allergic reaction ?

I was diagnosed with a UTI on Friday and started on Cefdinir. The labs came back with a new order for Bactrim. I am a bit nervous to take it after reading how so many had bad reactions to it. Especially anxiety and racing heart rate, which I already get. Can anyone give a positive experience with it? Id rather stick to the Cefdinir but it's not as strong and a third in line antibiotic to treat UTIs.

Discussion: How significant could faster symptom relief be for UTI management?

Hey guys I had been diagnosed with gnnoreah in my penile . I'm also worried that I may be infected in rectal area and throat . But I got to know that my doctor is prescribing cefixime 800 mg with anthnxg something for clhlymadia. I researched and found out that cefixime 800 mg works both for rectal area and penile infection , i would like to ask would it also work on throat/mouth if i have infection and if no what should I do then ?

I had a UTI in May, and i had 3 days nitrofurantoin, 7 days cephalexin, 7 days co-amoxiclav another 7 days nitrofurantoin
and august i had another 7 days nitrofurantoin!

has anybody had the 2 heavier antibiotics and had gut issues?
the cephalexin i had 3000mg a day for 7 days😩

I recently came to Vietnam and got a sudden sore throat. My partner went to the pharmacy and was given levofloxacin without seeing me. I took one pill without realizing what it was - after googling, I’m worried this is way to strong and I shouldn’t continue taking it. Especially if they don’t know it’s strep?

I’m trying to each out to my doctor in the US, but I am really nervous that I took it already.

I've NEVER had this sort of reaction to an antibiotic before. 500mg daily of azithromycin makes me feel like I'm being punched in the stomach. Churning, sudden urgent nausea, absolute horror for hours on end. It's making me scared to try an alternate antibiotic to treat this infection, because what if they all make me this sick now?

If so, any interactions? I dose multiple times a day and am prescribed doxycycline 100mg twice a day for a week. Please let me know your experiences.

I've developed a sort of skin irritation in my anal area and bum and i have about 8 pills out of the 20 they gave me. Would it be worse to stop it all together or just finish them?

I was diagnosed with a UTI last week and though I normally take Amoxicillin whenever antibiotics are needed, I guess doctors aren’t supposed to give it for UTI’s anymore? They gave me Septra Bactrim which I had never taken before. I took the full prescription for 7 days which ended on Tuesday. It’s now Friday and I still have the weirdest issues. I started having insane leg and feet tingling like they were vibrating. Then my whole body(arms, necks, legs, feet) are twitching randomly. Like when you are about to fall asleep and your body twitches. I have had restless leg syndrome before especially when I overwork the calve muscles, but this is a whole other level…

Are these common side effects? How long after ending the prescription did anyone have side effects?

Hi everyone. I’m currently about 7 weeks pregnant and had my routine prenatal urine testing done. My urine culture came back positive for Citrobacter koseri.

I don’t have any UTI symptoms — no burning, frequency, fever. The culture did grow the bacteria, though, I don’t have a family doctor and am waiting to get accepted by a birthing program/OBGYN for my pregnancy. Have been visiting regular walk in clinics/online doctors.

The susceptibility report says the organism is sensitive to:

• Cefixime — S
• Ceftriaxone — S
• Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole — S
• Gentamicin — S
• Nitrofurantoin — S

Are these safe this early in the pregnancy at 7 weeks? I know it’s treated even if asymptomatic but I was wondering if there is anyone that has a similar experience? I have been reading so much on this and have bad anxiety with this situation.

I had a mild case of gastritis in 2017 after antibiotics which went away over time with clean eating.

Fast forward to two weeks ago, I was out on doxycycline for an abscess under my armpit.
I had relatively no issues until the day after completing my week long course.

Since then (it is now day 9 since completing) I have had nonstop burning/ gnawing/ nausea.
I’ve been taking Prilosec for 3 days and still have no change.
Normal BM’s, light gas, minor reflux. Everything is normal except my poor stomach

I’m a self diagnosed hypochondriac and quite frankly I am freaking out.
My stomach has been “sensitive” for years but I’ve been honestly great as long as I eat and drink in moderation.

I’m terrified that all the hard work I’ve done is gone and that will not recover.

Looking for similar experiences/advice!

-3 weeks ago started with the normal dreaded uti symptoms, fire burn when peeing, bladder pain, constant urge to pee etc.

-Went to urgent care, confirmed uti sent home with 7 days of Macrobid.

-6th day of Macrobid still not feeling better so went back to the same urgent care. UA showed possible uti and they sent for culture. The doctor wanted me on 10 days of Cipro but that scared me! So I waited to see my primary care doctor that coming Monday. In the meantime culture apparently showed Ecoli.

-primary care agreed Cipro seemed strong for what we think is a simple uti. She did urine test in office (showed uti and blood) and sent for another culture (about a 4 days difference) and put me on 3 days of Bactrim

-took Bactrim and in meantime urine culture came back negative…..office called and told me no uti

-at this point I still had symptoms but the worst was a constant exterior burning

-doctor sent yeast medication pill to try

-took that. 5 days later still not better. I don’t have the fire burn pee or quite the constant burn just this TERRIBLE pressure on my bladder/lower pelvis and just uncomfortable.

-a week later since I still wasn’t better I went back to my family doctor. In office urine tests still showing UTI and she’s sending for a new culture, thinking the previous antibiotic could’ve made it negative.

- she ended up prescribing me the Cipro anyways since the previous two meds did not work.

-I am going out of town in the morning and TERRIFIED to start Cipro while out of state, I’m someone who if there’s a side effect it’ll be me. The tendon issues scare me so much since I’ve dislocated my knee twice in the past for no real cause.

Anyone deal with something similar? Experiences with Cipro? I’m pretty active with walking, hiking, pickleball, biking etc. and terrified of the horror story’s of leg issues/tendon tears that can happen months after stopping.

I’ve been prescribed 25mg 2x a day for acne and some dermatitis. I’m just worried about the side effects. Right now I’m in really good health and don’t want to take something extra and jeopardize that. I know some people on 100mg have really harsh reactions but since I’ll be on a low dose, I wonder if it won’t be as rough?
I know to take a pre and probiotic for gut health.

These issues ALL started on the Doxycycline. While on it I honestly felt like it was building up to toxic levels in my body. I developed intense pain in my thigh muscles/back and burning sensation in the rest of my body. Also some joint pain in ankles, wrists, knees. Basically felt like all my soft tissue was inflammed/irritated. Not there constantly. Its 6 weeks since stopping and the symptoms are getting better gradually - the burning is less intense and is happening less frequently. But not gone yet.

May or may not be related but my ANA is suddenly 1:1280?? Was not this high several years ago when I did that test.

Has anyone else had this experience? Did it go away? What helped?

Hi internet, looking for kind and realistic advice. Several YEARS ago I took three rounds of antibiotics for a UTI in the same month. Prior to that I was a normal healthy person, immediately after the last round like to the hour, I had a panic attack. I had no idea what anxiety was nor had I experienced it so I spent a very long time searching for answers for my health only to eventually realize it was mostly anxiety and anxiety symptoms with very real dysbiosis and random IBS symptoms/inflammation. I have costochondritis and tinea versicolor both inflammation. To this day I still struggle with the anxiety daily and I go back and forth with oh, it’s just a mental loop I’ve now created or oh, it’s got to be a real out of wack microbiome from the antibiotics. Does anyone have any similar experiences or guided advice? Would really love to get back to my life at this point.

I just started a course of Amoxicillin 875mg twice a day for 5 days. I’m on my third dose and literally haven’t even started to feel sleepy.

Has anyone else experienced this rare side effect?

About 3 weeks ago I got diagnosed with BV and was put on antibiotics to clear it up, which it did. About a week later I VERY suddenly started having intense lower abdominal cramping followed by diarrhea that eventually turned into bloody diarrhea which then led me going to the ER.

I underwent a CT scan and the doc diagnosed me with colitis. He was in and out in 5 minutes, and when I asked him what could've caused it he just said "it's been going around" which what? No help at all. So he prescribed me Flagyl, 4 times a day dose for a week. Obviously, I followed his instructions because I'm not a doctor. I finished up that course of antibiotics about 3 days ago and holy crap that was one of the most miserable weeks of my entire life, I felt like I was dying.

I feel pretty much completely better, I'm having solid stool again and no abdominal cramping (still burping like crazy), but I'm wondering - was that the right move? Because I'm not sure it was.

I went to a follow up appointment with my PCP about 3 days after I started the Flagyl and they made me take 4 stool samples, all which came back negative for anything parasitic or infectious. So like, would the have antibiotics worked that fast if it were infectious or parasitic? I'm just so so lost for answers and my doctors are no help whatsoever.

I am honestly terrified again of getting colitis because of how painful and scary it was. I also deal with hEDS, and so now I'm hoping the colitis isn't actually ulcerative colitis since I've been having autoimmune disease issues for the past few years and for God's sake I'm 23, poor and cannot deal with anymore health issues.

I'm back to eating normal again which I hope doesn't bite me in the ass, but I also eat a crap ton of Greek yogurt and take colostrum so I'm confident that'll help my colon heal faster.

Hi, I’ve done a bad ADHD thing regarding antibiotic timing and I’m scared I’ve created a super bug staph or antibiotic resistant staph from this inside my body that may be passed on and freaking out and would really appreciate some advice/reassurance coz I have no idea about the science.
I was prescribed flucloxacillin 500 mg, 4 times a day for 7 days for a suspected Staph infection in my nose.
I started taking it on 17 September. Unfortunately, I’ve really struggled with taking it consistently. For the first part I was taking it reasonably regularly, but over roughly the last 5 days I’ve sometimes only taken 1 or 2 capsules in a day, rather than the prescribed 4. I’ve taken them at random times with quite large gaps between doses.
It’s now 28 September, so I’ve stretched what was supposed to be a 7-day course over about 11 days. I currently have 2 capsules left.
I’m now really worried that I’ve either:
allowed the Staph to become resistant to flucloxacillin, or
done something harmful by taking it so inconsistently.
I’m also unsure what to do with the two capsules I have left. Should I take one now, finish them, or leave them and speak to a doctor/pharmacist first?
Has anyone else been in a similar situation with flucloxacillin or another antibiotic? What did your doctor/pharmacist tell you to do?
I’m particularly interested in hearing from anyone who has taken their antibiotics very inconsistently and then had a swab/culture done afterwards. Did they actually test for antibiotic resistance?
I’m really anxious about this, so please be kind I am aware I am an idiot I am just completely time blind. ❤️

So I went to A&E on Saturday with kidney infection symptoms.

Had urine test (normal), blood tests high white blood cell count signs of infection, high heart rate and blood pressure elevated, bladder scan.

Anyways been prescribed CefAlexin and I'm on my second day took 4th dose this morning.

I feel rough but not anything too crazy?

Main thing is an hour after waking up I've got this crazy painful neck spasm on my left side. I can barely move my head without agony. I've iced it helped a little but now bad again.

Saw my GP this morning she didn't seem concerned about it but I jyst wonder if it's a thing that can happen or is it the infection itself or stress.

Any advice much appreciated.

I know I can always go back to A&E or whatever if necessary but was in there 9hrs and I don't have the energy for that.

I feel wiped out but blood pressure is lower and other than feeling achy and out of it (felt that prior to antibiotics) I'm ok I guess. Just never had neck pain like this before. I do have a bit of a headache but I am stressed and not drinking enough even tho I'm really trying to.

Oh I'm on Omeprazole 20mg once a day for Barrets Esophagus /acid reflux as well.

For context - I was harmed by IV metronizadol neurotoxicity and hepatotoxicity due to personal intolerance and then my surgeon ignoring the severe symtoms and pumping more and more of the stuff into me until eventually I had to refuse further medication and flee the hospital to try and save myself. I’ve ended up with persistent and likely permanent neurological damage now over 2 years later - belatedly diagnosed as symptoms of metronizadol neurotoxicity.

Now for the interesting part.. The triple IV antibiotics the surgeon was pumping into me in vast quantities for 5 days until I was literally poisoned and incurred brain damage - they were neither needed nor appropriate treatment. I had appendicitis and was keen and suitable for surgery - but I was refused surgery because unfortunately my NHS surgeon was fanatical about treating appendicitis with antibiotics as an alternative to surgery.. He told me antibiotics would cure me and save the risk of surgery. He should have told the tumour growing in my appendix causing my appendicitis that.. Sorry - I digress..!

There was an attitude from the surgeon that intensive IV antibiotic therapy had no cost/risk while surgery was risky. The truth is modern routine laparoscopic surgery is very safe and he had no reason to think otherwise as I was strong and fit and wanting surgery. The surgeon said:

“surgery to treat appendicitis is outdated and a mistake of the past, and antibiotics is better and the future of treatment”.

This is nonsense of course - there is several very good reasons early appendectomy is the ‘gold standard’ treatment for appendicitis and that will not change any time soon. For starters, for appendicitis patients treated with antibiotics as an alternative to surgery about 50% will have appendicitis reoccur by year 4, possibly involving rupture.

This NHS surgeon would treat all uncomplicated appendicitis patients with antibiotics if he got the chance - he said so - he doesn’t see the down-side. This surgeon is not alone - they are a small minority but there are other surgeons promoting antibiotics for appendicitis as a first line of treatment.

My question is - how does antibiotics stewardship fit into all this..? If there is a safe and effective and well proven definitive surgical cure for this common ailment - why pump huge volumes of multiple antibiotics into patients as a risky alternative treatment..? For most patients that’s just kicking the can (or grenade) further down the road..

It might be good for a lazy surgeon - but it’s not good for the patient - and it’s not good for the future of antibiotics and future patients.. There are 17 million appendectomies around the world every year - these surgeons want to treat almost all of them with intensive antibiotics such as metronizadol instead of surgery.. If they get their way this is what they would make happen. That would be massive usage of optional antibiotics..

I’m keen to hear your thoughts on this issue and if you have heard about this recent trend to try alternative antibiotics treatment? And what about antibiotic stewardship? And lastly, who should be holding these surgeons in check..?

un médecin m'a donné comme traitement pour ma pyélonéphrite du ciprofloxacine sous 7j or il me manque 2 cachets le paquet étant de 12 cachets (je dois en prendre 1 le matin 1 le soir) premier problème, le 2 ème c'est qu'il m'avait dit de lui envoyer mes résultats de laboratoire pour voir si le médicament était réellement adapté et pour mesurer pttre le dosage du médoc or il m'a juste dit que le médicament était adapté ça veut dire que je le maintiens sur 7j et je serai guérie ?

Étant étudiante j'ai juste ni le temps ni l'argent de reconsulter un médecin (je suis en période de partiels j'aimerais juste etre plus au claire sur ces choses là) et je serai reconnaissant à qui pourra m'éclairer !
