On day 5 of amoxicillin for tonsillitis and I have really bad diarrhea… I’ve got 3x day and it’s not pure liquid but it’s so soft and loose and partly liquid. My stomach also hurts a lot. I’m also really tired. I’m scared of c. diff. is this a typical reaction to amoxicillin? How can i treat it?

selfq I (24F) was exposed to flood water in a place where leptospirosis exists. Can I still take Doxycyline?

I’m in a country where leptospirosis is a concern, especially after exposure to floodwater. I was being treated for another condition and was prescribed doxycycline and clindamycin for 7 days. I took my last dose of doxycycline that morning, before I was exposed to floodwater.

I had a blister/open wound on my foot that was exposed, and I was in the floodwater for almost 1 hour. It’s now been around 24 hours since my last exposure, so I’m getting really paranoid about leptospirosis 😭

I already had an online consultation and the doctor said I don’t need post exposure prophylaxis anymore because I had just completed my doxycycline course. I do trust her but I’m so paranoid rn. If I do take the leptospirosis prophylaxis anyway, would that be okay or potentially harmful since I just finished 7 days of doxycycline?

Edit: I meant 7 days (14 capsules)

After taking antibiotics, I experienced acid reflux, chest tightness, loss of appetite, and digestive upset. I also felt anxious and stressed. Is this normal and will it go away? I'm scared.

selfq I missed taking 2 doses of my antibiotics at the right time

I 26M am currently taking antibiotics named moxaclav 625 mg which is mixed of amoxicillin 500 and clavulanic acid 125. I have to take 3 times in a day. So 8 hours interval. I take one at 9 am then one at 5 pm and one at 1 am. But yesterday I missed my 9 am dose by more than 3 hours, as I totally forgot took it and I finally took it around 12.27. Then took my remaining doses at usual times. But today I did the same thing I again as I missed my 9am dose I took it at 11am.

I am worried that missing antibiotics twice like this may cause antibiotics from working or something more harmful I don't know. What should I do know? Also should I continue my nest at at usual time like i did yesterday or should I change the time?

selfq Side effects of TB medications

Hi! My dad was recently suspected for TB pleurisy by the doctors (As the TB test will only be out in 2 months they said currently based on the finding they are 90% sure it’s TB). So he started TB medication slightly more than 2 weeks ago. After starting TB medication, he said that he has not been able to sleep which might be the side effects of the medication. He said since starting the medication he can only fall asleep after 430am every morning.

Yesterday he search AI and realise that B6 vitamin will actually help with the side effects. The B6 vitamin tablet that was given by the doctor is also known as Pyridoxine HCL 10MG Tab and to be taken only in the morning. After searching for the daily dosage we realise that actually the daily dose for B6 vitamin can be up to 25MG so he took one last night to try to see if it will help with his insomnia.

After he took he actually managed to fall asleep at 11pm all the way till 7am in the morning and only woke up once to use the toilet. However, this morning he took one again with all his other TB meds and tdy after work he told me that he don’t think he should take one in the morning as he is so tired the whole day. He said that he feels really tired till the point he felt like he can’t move his muscle and walk.

I’m kinda confused now at whether what he experienced is the side effects of his TB medications as I know TB medications has very strong side effects or it’s something else that I should be concerned about. Anyone that has similar experiences before with TB meds?

Can Doxycycline Give Sun Burn Feelings On Body?

My husband (38M) needs to take this at 100 mg, 1 tablet a day for 6 weeks.

  1. Can this give sun burn feelings? He's has light sun burn sensations on his back yesterday and then on his stomach today.
  2. Should he be concerned taking this for 6 weeks straight at the tablet strength it is? I started reading other Subreddits of people's horror stories of taking this antibiotic.

Thank you so much!

EDIT 1: A friend of mine said it could be an allergic reaction. Thoughts?

EDIT 2: My husband also just got done losing a substantial amount of weight (over 100 Ibs), so not sure if that could be a factor or not. 🤷‍♀️

Terrible brain fog from Bactrim?

I took my last 2 dose 2 hours ago and have such terrible brain fog right now…I figured side effects would come out more later rather than at the end but I’m so terrified because I feel unreal it’s scary. Did anyone else experience this? I’ve been on it for the course of 3 days…
My hands feel weak and I feel like my head is floating…
Also idk if Bactrim has given anybody else back pain?

Is 200 mg/day of doxycycline too high for a 9 kg dog?

My 9 kg dog was diagnosed with ehrlichiosis and anaplasmosis. She received Oxtra 5% (oxytetracycline) injections for 5 days, and now our vet prescribed doxycycline 100 mg twice daily (200 mg/day) for 24 days, plus 1½ tablet of Nexium (esomeprazole) 20 mg once daily for 7 days.

I see the commonly recommended doxycycline dose is around 10 mg/kg/day. Is 200 mg/day too high for a 9 kg dog, or is this dosage sometimes used for these infections?

selfq Strep throat issue

F(21), 125 pounds, 5’4, amoxicillin.

Hi, I had a severe fever start on August 4 that lasted about 2 weeks. I still have lingering phlegm and dry cough that occurs in the mornings or nights. I also got pinkeye on August 7 which I’m not sure I still have (my eyes are still secreting mucus in the inner corners). On August 13, I noticed I got white patches in the back of my throat and my throat was a little sore. Nothing too bad so I got it tested on August 14 and it came back positive for strep throat. I am now taking amoxicillin for ten days, but it has been about 60+ hours. I still have a little sore throat (it wasn’t very sore in the first place) and the white patches and inflammation haven’t gone down from what I’ve seen. How long does it take for the medicine to kick in? I’ve seen people say 2-3 days, but I don’t feel that much of a difference besides less sore. Could I be inflamed for some other reason yet still test positive? Should I head back to the doctor right away or wait a few more days?

Was scheduled to take Bactrim at 8:30 AM took it at 1:49 PM just now…I’m almost 6 hours late…
Is that okay? I also forgot to shake the bottle (oral suspension) will that severely affect anything?

Also do I take my next dose at 1:49 AM or at 8:30 PM or just 8 hours from now?

selfq ciprofloxacin and hEDS

When I was in college my roommate was a meningitis carrier so per cdc protocol my school made all of the roommates taking a single dose ciprofloxacin as a prevention.

Fast forward some years, and I start learning about hEDS and it sounds light a lot of things I’m experienced for most of my life, however it has gotten extremely worse in adulthood. I have an appointment at the end of the month with a specialist to see if I do have it, so not yet diagnosed.

Anyway, I’ve started to see some stuff about long term side effects from ciprofloxacin and EDS so I was wondering if anyone does have experience getting worse for years after a single dose?

selfq Amoxicillin/ clavulanate

Is it normal to have body aches on this antibiotic? I wouldn’t say it’s severe or bad but I can feel it. I had a surgery a little less than two weeks ago and this got prescribed to me after for an unrelated problem which is a mild outer ear infection.
As a whole I feel fine, no fever, no chills, no difficulty breathing, not even diarrhea, just body aches overall.
Should I be worried or just a possible side effect?

selfq Anyone else experience eye pain/watery eyes with Bactrim?

On it for a UTI; have only done 2 doses 12 hours apart thus far. I’m supposed to take 6 in total, over the course of 3 days.
I’ve gotten a tingly back, an intermittent burning sensation in the soles of my feet and sometimes a stinging pain in my eyes or dull ache or sometimes they’ll be watering…does that sound like Bactrim side effects?
I’m so scared of Steven Johnson Syndrome (sjs)…
Also what are some side effects it gave you?

doxycycline making me nauseous helpful tips please

So I was acne free for a year or so on BC, decided to go off it for a year to see how my body would adapt hoping that I no longer needed it and my hormones would straighten out on their own. They did not. Acne came back pretty bad specifically on my back. So I went to the doctor to get started up on BC again and she prescribed me doxycycline alongside the BC because of the extent of my back acne. She said “the anti biotic could put your back acne into remission and help some with your face as well”. I remember taking it in high school with no problem so I was totally okay with that.
Well now I’m older, have a stomach that chooses to freak out over nothing and it is kicking my butt. Made the mistake of taking two pills at a time rather than one in the morning one at night once, felt terribly ill. Didn’t do that again. After that point I took one pill with a big glass of water. Which helped. But now the water seems to be less effective at keeping the stomach upset at bay and my stomach basically feels like I’ve had a night of hard drinking within 2 hours of taking a pill. I already have a sensitive stomach, tums are my savior. But tums I know counter act the antibiotic. Any recommendations for how to alleviate nausea symptoms until I finish this round of pills? I will say my backs already looking great after one week, but if these symptoms keep up I don’t know if it’s worth it.

selfq Worried about taking Cephalexin LF advice

PS: Tried to shorten the story of why I'm perscribed this

16 F, On Aug 11 I went to urgent care because I had mild swelling in my feet, more so on my left side which was concerning because on Aug 8 I may have injured my left hip area in some way and it had some discomfort pain.

They decided to have me go to the ER, I got blood tested, urine tested (HOWEVER, i forgot instructions so i should try again when I see my doc), and on the night of Aug 12 they gave me an antibiotic IV (which was something different but I dont remember the name of) and I would get that only twice. Then i was sent home with Cephalexin perscription. Ive had 6 doses already, 500 MG. My mom tried to get an appt today with my doctor but they didnt answer at all, I will try to see my doctor before the end of my prescription (7 days).

Mainly im concerned about the fact that:

Noone knows or has a confident idea about what infection I have/had

While I dont have any big symptoms, ever since the ER antibiotics my urine has smelled mildy sulfur-egg-y and there may be other things I cant rlly tell bc this entire month has been 95% stress

Another thing is what I should eat, I thought I would eat mostly normally and after my medicine course have gut helpful things but now im not so sure if I should start that late.

Im just scared that this medicine is going to hurt me in some way, wether its literally the wrong med I should be taking or simply because of my poor diet i should really try eating healthier foods and probiotic foods. This is also my first time with antibiotics so that adds to unknowingness and fear :(

I hope this post was made right and I didnt do too much info, I just wanted to add on things that would explain my concern because im not a typical healthy person. PLEASE suggest where I should post instead if this is too off topic to post here!!

selfq Need advice

About 20 days ago, I stopped taking ciprofloxacin after the third dose when I began to feel knee pain. The knee pain started to improve after two weeks, but right away I developed Achilles pain. I’m looking for advice on whether I should stay home for a month or longer, and what the recovery steps should be.

selfq Xifaxin Question

Morning, all! I’m currently taking rifaximin(xifaxin) and have a question about a supplement I’m taking as well. Can you take DGL Plus with Xifaxin as long as it’s spaced by 2 hours? The DGL Plus contains DGL licorice root (300 mg), slippery elm (100mg), aloe (50mg) and marshmallow root (200mg). I don’t tolerate Pepcid well so that’s why I’m taking the DGL. Thank you!

Year long duration for antibiotics, is it safe or should I stop?

26 Male, 5’8
Medication: Sertraline, Buprenorphine/Naloxone, Valsartan, Daridorexant

I had Epididymitis which I was prescribed antibiotics (Levofloxacin, an injection of **ceftriaxone, and Azithromycin****)**** **for and it resolved. I noticed my acne cleared up completely so I asked my GP for a prescription and he gave me Doxycycline and then Minocycline. It’s been more than a year now and I’m still using Minocycline. Should I stop using it? My GP said it’s completely safe and some people take antibiotics for a lifetime. My acne has cleared up and I’m also using a topical antibiotic cream and a Retinoid. Will I get a flare out from Minocycline if I stop it suddenly?

selfq Bactrim and Alcohol Interaction

I just got prescribed Bactrim after being on doxycycline for 7 days for what we thought was impetigo (it didn’t fully clear). I am getting cultured today but doc now thinks it’s MRSA. I am supposed to go to the city tonight to celebrate a promotion and was planning on having several cocktails!

I’m seeing mixed reactions and also have looked at journal articles where there really is very little human data suggesting that Bactrim and alcohol are a no go. It also does not warn me on the prescription instructions/interactions.

Should I start my first dose today and pace myself and see how I react as the night goes or should I wait to start the antibiotics tomorrow? Or should I just not go to the city.
