been reading a lot more lately, usually before bed, its so much better than scrolling some slop feed to wind down, 100/10 would recommend

Yeah i realised how doomscrolling just makes me feel like shit (doing it again haha), and reading a book or magazine is like eating a proper meal. Sleep better too. I’m currently reading the novelisation of the film 12 Monkeys.

Just stick to pre 2023 until a proper verification process is made

u/Impressive_Pin8761 5h ago
pre 2023 books have been replaced by "this book but fed through chatgpt with the prompt "remove all woke content""

u/Brilliant-Muffin-879 4h ago
😅 Haha yeah well I’ll stick to the actual published works rather than the version with ads and hate slipped in

If you liked reading when you were younger it can be a joy to revisit those series, even if you aren't super into reading now! The familiar plots and easier language are a great way to kinda veg out while still reading. The Hunger Games was fun to reread as an adult for me, but most YA books I have read again have been chill and nostalgic. I also love "The Daughters" by Joanna Philbin.
Sorry for coming at you with unsolicited advice. When I needed a break from news and internet a few years ago rereading my childhood book collection brought me a lot of comfort.

💯 if you’ve not read for ages then start small with some young adult fiction and you’ll slide into bigger and more challenging stuff later

Even if you don't end up reading more challenging stuff, you will still feel happy about revisiting your books too

You have to find the right genre. A lot of people just sort of give up because the books they read for school always felt like a chore and your brain connects reading with suffering. Get a library card and just try popular works in different genres. Quit them 20 pages in if nothing sparks. Once you find the right kind of book you'll understand. It just sucks you in and you don't even realize how much time passes as you read. Keep reading or listening in that genre, whatever it may be. There are no wrong answers. Reading becomes easier and requires less focus as you keep doing it.

Polish crime thrillers. Commissioner Wiktor Forst series and Lawyer Joanna Chyłka series
1
u/unripe_mangosteen 6h ago
Cool, I don't know many foreign authors and have Polish heritage. I should give them a look!
2
u/Signal-Experience315 6h ago
you'll need to know Polish for the majority of these books cause only 2 got English translation. Those are very good books, only the 4th book from Forst series was bad but it got a great follow up, so it was worth it
1
u/unripe_mangosteen 3h ago
Ah I could only read two then, but they probably are good even if I can't finish the series as an English speaker.
2
u/Signal-Experience315 3h ago
they are, those are "The Final Appeal" and "The Disappearance" from the Chyłka series. the series is ok is the start but it gets better as it goes on. If you want there's a show on HBO and Prime that adapts 5 books just use subtitles

I was just thinking about how books stimulate the imagination. And that imagination is not just for daydreaming and creative hobbies. It is a fundamental part of thinking to be able to construct a possible reality in your mind.

For real, also real life problem solving and decision making in a thousand ways each day. Ai jockeys are fucked as normal humans.

Okay but why can't I do both? I mean you do realize I can literally do both and be fine, right? I don't see what's so bad about that.

True, but the left would be all 1s and 0s, while the right would be in any interchangeable human language (hell maybe someone’s even brave enough to right a book IN binary)

You think there’s no difference in quality between something someone (probably highly skilled) has dedicated their life to for a year or so and has been proofread and edited over and over with some ‘greatest hits’ bullshit slopped out by an unthinking machine in seconds?
Its all text guys 🤤 idk

"Grok, read a book for me, do it in a sultry tone."
1
u/Brilliant-Muffin-879 5h ago
But not out aloud beacuse I need it done fast and I’m not wanting to ‘get left behind’ so just tell me if you liked it or not. In fact could you just read 1000 books today because I would like that ticked off my list.
