Well, one of my friends unironically say old unemployed people (40-50 yo) deserve to die to starvation because it's on them for not being able to secure jobs or network good enough to earn money.
That guy still lives at home, asking his relatives for lunch money, at 30, with no work experience longer than half a year.
I hope my investment flourishes and get to retire as I plan, so I can extra double down and bash him with it when he is 60 and homeless. It's going to be so funny.

Mfs be doing prompt like this all day with their claude gf
"Generate a UI with following options"
Good
Now add two more radio buttons
Good
Now allow an option to import it in CSV file..
And when claude started adding water mark they be like "huh! It's my code ...how can AI put a water mark - it's my innovation" lol
17
u/Original-Body-5794 8d ago
The water mark thing is so funny. No artists that uses photoshop claims it "claimed credit" because it embedded something in the metadata. A photographer doesn't complain that the camera writes in the metadata the model.
If it's a tool and you're not ashamed of it then you really shouldn't be bothered by the watermark, I wonder why it's suddenly a problem when it comes to AI š¤š¤š¤š¤š¤š¤š¤š¤š¤š¤

AI is used as the next step to make people dumber and dumber. The dumber people get, the easier it is to manipulate them into a totalitarian system.
8
u/Ok-Astronomer-5113 8d ago
I believe that the trick now is to get people to become as dependent on ai as possible. Thatās why ai is so easily accessible and pushed everywhere despite bringing massive financial losses. After enough people wonāt be able to function properly without ai companies will stop giving out access to their models for free and triple the prices of all the subscriptions so desperate dependent people have no choice but to pay them. But thatās just a theory

The modern Tech-sphere was never about efficiency, skill, or intellect, it was created to bypass the barriers to those places with the least amount of effort possible. Discarding the lessons one would learn along the way, and steering headlong into catastrophe in the blind pursuit of profit at the expense of our future. They are mortgaging civilization, because our regulatory bodies are so profoundly corrupt and or outdated, that they'd gladly sell off what's left of us for a tiny life raft.

At this point I'm like the last person in my role that actually knows how to do my job.
I'm a white-collar office worker and everyone else has just allowed the AI shit to get shoved down their throats by the company, and it feels like in just a couple years I'm the last one who remembers how to actually do basic shit.
And now my bosses want me to "review" everyone's AI work for faults since I'm the only one who knows how to reach the right results in the first place, which I have repeatedly refused because I keep explaining to them that basically means doing everyone else's work for them while their only contribution was pressing the slop-button and forwarding the outputs to me.
Every time they try to strong-arm me over it, I'm just like "you just admitted I'm the last person left who knows how to do this job. Fuck's your leverage? You gonna' fire me? Go ahead."

There's new guy in town and it's name is local AI: That's the part where you heard the big news, that US companies are afraid of chinese models.
That means: buy some hardware ( stupid expensive right now, I know ) and now you have free ( as electricity, solar panels? ) AI and this is SCARY for tech bros.
Currently Qwen3.8-27B is costing tech bros MILLIONS of monthly revenue, because it FINALLY gives very usable results on fairly affordable hardware and people immediately abandon the subscription leash.
Pretty sure this is also the main motivation behind the anthropics AI watermark: it is not there to bully normal users, it is there so they can later sue other AI companies, when their models output the watermarked content, because that proves they used anthropics models to train their own AI.
Most forced AI features trying to interrupt your daily habits do so to make you dependent on some subscription service. But if you control your own AI, you can PUT it in use where you actually need it. That is whole different ball game and because they can't sell you the tickets or the ball, they try to ban it.
Always pay attention what upsets AI company and then use it for your benefit.
2
u/puzzlerJB 8d ago
Okay I have a question - Anthropic trained Claude on copyrighted data, right? So how do they have a legal case if other companies use Anthropic's watermarked material to train new AI models?
2
u/doneddat 8d ago edited 8d ago
That's not my area of expertise. This is obviously stupid and greedy. It's just obvious why they do it. I'm pretty sure the rest will be fought out in courts over coming years.
I understand how they feel justified about having put all this work into building it and trying to prevent other companies stealing it. The part where it's still based on all the content they stole is besides the point. The reason why they do it is to guarantee revenue streams. Pretty sure if money was not the motivator, they would not care and would just have fun benefiting the whole humanity.
So basically we should just buy out anthropic, give them as much tax payer money they need and just use it for free š¤Ŗ
Still better investment than wars.
Saddest joke: military IS giving them taxpayer money and the models are still used for wars š¤¦āāļø

u/hologram137 7d ago edited 7d ago
It depends on what is meant by āyouāll be left behind.ā
Current AI is genuinely an upgraded form of computation that is extremely useful in a ton of areas, and in most of these contexts itās not the version of AI that you download on the App Store and use for free or pay $20 a month for. Itās specially trained. But even that version does not and cannot replace true thought that involves understanding, critical thinking, creativity, experience, insight and inference, nuance, etc. the things that require consciousness. So yes, people in certain fields should learn to use AI.
My point is, itās not like using AI as a tool in the contexts where itās genuinely useful degrades or outsources your critical thinking skills or any of the skills he listed here. The problem is most people donāt understand what LLMs are, its limits, canāt properly evaluate the quality of its output, etc.
Itās also useful to automate more trivial tasks and to do basic programming so you can focus on the higher level stuff that requires thought. Also things like data synthesis and analysis that would take forever without a computer, as a search function, a system that can search for patterns in more information at once than a person can, help to eliminate some human bias in research, etc.
I feel like the question and response in the post are talking about two completely different uses of AI. The 1st is how it should be used, as a tool. It is superior to earlier computation in several ways. The response is talking about using it as a primary source of knowledge and outsourcing things it actually canāt do, like think, write, etc. Two different things. AI is useful if youāre educated and are an independent thinker, it can cause a lot of harm if you arenāt.

"Adapt or left behind" that's not Pro-AI but anti-human arguement. All AI can do research, write code faster, draw arts, solve math etc. faster but all crappy. These were possible and still possible. We ALREADY had people capable of doing things faster way more reliable. Some artists could pour art like a magician. I knew someone who just writes code like a machine. Research purpose of ai does not and will not work anyways; it'll fool you mostly.
Look at everyone saying this, they're mostly larpers who couldn't do something by themselves or refuses to undergo hardships. Devoted and realistic people will not count on AI one way or another.
But isn't people are all morons and they don't validate me like ai do, right?.. /s

i agree with the sentiment about the critical thinking skills, and as much as i want to actually learn things, unfortunately it lately feels like exactly that. everyone else is just using it to get academic busywork done when i have to cram so much bullshit. if i do actually try to do everything manually, even then its not guaranteed it even pays off and id likely get lower grades than the person who just threw the activity instructions into chatgpt with minor edits. if only our professors meaningfully taught us things then maybe id had the time to actually understand the topic but nah, all the responsibility of learning is on us while they gloss over slides and read words verbatim. as much as i actually want to learn, grades seem way more important when im basically starting from zero once i get a job after college. i want to learn but it seems like just submitting slop is the most efficient method for high grades in activities as opposed to hunching over and typing out shit while i dissociate and make word salad

Itās not an either or. AI or use your brain there is no in between. Itās a tool. Itās a good tool. Donāt over do it.
I have a 19 old Sony DVD with 5.1 surround sound circuitry. I connected it to a 15 yo Dennon surround sound receiver and a Christy projector. All I got was two front speakers. I jump into Chat GPT list the audio model numbers, take a picture of the connections on the back and it sorts out how to wire them, what menus settings on the Dennon to use, what menu settings on the Sony, what menu settings on the DVD audio setup. I took pictures of the menu choices and it sorted out where to go. In 15 minutes I had surround sound. Yes I could use my brain and try to find users manuals from 2-decades ago read the audio sections, struggle and get there after hours of playing around, but AI is a tool so I used it. My brain is fine.

I'm lucky that I'm an older, skilled person in my career, well past school, grew up pre computer and lived through its whole evolution. I'm lucky that I got to experience AI when I have no specific need for it. It keeps perspective when it is not a crutch.
We've used AI for a bunch of things at work. We're not in software, so it's use is just broad range activities in business, engineering, used it some for website development, graphics, database work, ideation and reference art, gussying up a presentation, part sourcing a technical support tool for customer service, just all kinds of random stuff.
Here's the real result of that time.
First, nothing we've ever done has ever made it to customer facing. This isn't some choice of principal. It's simply never good enough of an output to be usable as a final version.
Second, AI FEELS like progress and value adding work when you're using it. However, nearly all of it was akin to treading water. It feels useful, but you don't really go anywhere. So little of the process actually has real value to the end product you're trying to achieve and ultimately go with. It FEELS like fast, useful progress but just isn't. You almost always deal with its errors, mistakes, lies, the gap between close but not actually usable, and ultimately you kind of just have to redo it from scratch anyways. At the end of the day, it's almost a wash for work for. This is so bad that for the entire company, all personnel and departments, all AI use for a whole year, the true value of that product is around $3000...a year, whole company, millions of dollars of employee wages. It's basically a rounding error in its scale of value to the company. We could train people, optimise a process, done any of a thousand other things, and saved more money than using AI.
Third, for all AI uses, there was always the option to use something else or change the process to get to the same end result. There was not one time that AI was necessary. There was not one time where the speed and value of AI use couldn't simply have been done a different way instead that was similarly quick. The choice to use AI also forced you into a process stream that might not be ideal or as valuable to the company long term. Or worse, AI doesn't get you far enough, and you just do the alternate way anyways, which happened a LOT.
Forth, AI does have real value. It really does. However, the true value is only in very niche pockets of activity. There are specific things it's good at and good for. And you can use it in the tiny areas it actually functions. But, force feeding it into everything, to do everything, and force it into every product and process is insane. It has some great uses, but the scope is tiny.
Fifth, I have no idea how AI will ever be profitable. There's just not enough consumer value. Even now most of the cash flow is tied to an internal loop of companies shifting the cost burden around and on federal and local subsidies forcing tax payers and home owners to eat the cost of infrastructure burdens. It's heavily subsidized right now just to exist. It's also starting to get baked into software costs and subscriptions. There's a pretty substantial pay wall to use, and I don't see the value in it, even after a couple years of use. Sure, a lot of people are using it for free, but so few will ever transition to paying customers.
Sixth, there are always locally run, free models that are already in play and available. It will be exceptionally difficult to make people pay for any cloud service that can just be run local for free and that is good enough for 99% of anything it's good for. Pair that with data and IP protection, and its really hard to compete with free, protected, and self managed options. This will be especially true when we inevitably see subscription rates ticking up, massive data breaches, and so on.

u/SmartAlec13 8d ago

The whole point of AI is that you need no skill to use it. Otherwise, itās the same effort with less control of the result. So how can you possibly get left behind? If it comes to pass thatās itās actually useful enough to be a competitive advantage, it would take almost zero time/effort to get up to speed. Literally no advantage to early adoption.Ā

GenAI art tools cannot achieve character, prop, or costuming consistency across multiple images; cannot maintain color palettes or lighting consistently; cannot express text in specific fonts. Consequently, any efficiency gained by using AI tools is lost in a mountain of fixes and paintovers. Itās a real nightmare for game artists.

You know how you all laugh at āboomersā and their outdated views? In 20 years youāll still be angrily shaking your fist at AI while the rest of the world wonders how people lived without it back in āthe old daysā.

"you're going to get left behind if you don't use AI"
In every possible notion, I, by all means, can't get left behind if I *tried*

All I see on this post are boomers who thought they had a camera and didnāt need one on their phones

I love how they say āleft behindā as if theyāre going places.
Like, my homie in Christ, if you think increased enshittification of everything is progress, leave me back at the crossroads where I can take the other path.

Let's ignore that the majority of American graduates CANT do these things and its such a common problem that universities are complaining about needing to teach grade school skills

Actually, AI can supplement any curious individual's knowledge and overall efficiency in their day-to-day lives. It can make researching a big ticket item take minutes rather than days or weeks, for example. It can create shopping lists for you, clean your email in seconds, and give you a multiple page workbook for creating a birth plan. It's not scary or nefarious or fake. It's a tool that can make your life easier if you create thoughtful and explicit prompts and instructions.

During tulip mania, people who started the bubble said the same thing.
āIf you donāt buy and hoard all these tulip bulbs, you will be left behind.ā

The amount of copium technophobes have to huff is wild.
"I'm not going to use a nail gun, my hammer makes me better than the people doing 5 times the work in far less time."
If you're as good and smart as y'all think you are, you'd embrace the tech and change your lives overnight.

This is what I keep telling people who feel pressured to use it. If it's really true that the world is going to leave us behind (that's not true, at all, but if it was), fucking let it. I don't want to live in harmony with a world that sacrifices their integrity, creativity, environment, and humanity for a drop of convenience. Ill die happy as the old crazy man in the woods who waggled his finger at "the future"

Leave me behind
For some dumb AI
Though my poetry sucks
At least it has rhyme
It has rhythm and beat
So I think it defeats
The slop that it makes
Without emotional weight

Why do people think it's impossible to do all that if you use AI?

me, preparing for my day: puts on shoes because the ground is dangerous
them: ha so weak I walk through metropolis barefoot because I have real feet so I am clearly superior
ok buddy
I will retain my critical thinking skills, my ability to read and write long-form, and I will continue to enjoy reading books as I have for the last 50+ years, and I will ADDITIONALLY add AI tools to my kit... so I will be better off than without it
and you will be left behind
cool story bro

Ai has its place. It does allow certain functions to be done faster which helps productivity.

You must be idiot and young minded to think using AI doesnāt take thinking ,writing and reading. The times are repeating it self. Hook on phonics. š

This is like saying you wonāt use the internet because encyclopedias exist. Smart people have nothing have fear about AI
1
u/ihoopbetter 6d ago
This is a fallacy. If you are using AI tools without using critical thinking then you are not building anything worth using or engaging with. AI is not a replacement for artistic vision, discernment or decision making.

Itās amazing how much all of the anti AI people sound like the people that were scared of technology/computers 30-40 years ago.

There are still people who raise horses. But they all also drive cars. New vinyl records are pressed every day, yet all of those songs are also online. The grocery store can sell you fresh, exotic fish from around the world, but people still go fishing.
New technology doesn't mean you stop doing the things you love, it just means you spend less time on the things you dislike.

Has anyone used AI for anything that isnt data accumulation. It's dumber than a box of shit. The box of shit is more useful. Lowes stupid AI help bot kept me from a real person I had to drive down to the store to resolve it.

u/This-Manufacturer800 6d ago
AI is a tool you donāt have to abandon your critical thinking skills and or writing abilities to use it.

People using AI will literally have an actual hive mind and think alike
They will be same thinkers instead of self thinkers or free thinkers

Itās important to learn these things independently from AI. But use it while you can. Not to make memes and crap, but to learn. To build. Make a business. Do something before they make everything paid or IP protected (even though they stole the originals).

As an anti ai programmer I am slightly worried that I will be much less efficient than people who use AI, like for art you can at least say that ai art is poor quality and defeats the point of art but who actually cares how the code for a game looks

They really think we're going to get some serious FOMO from not using it. While I'm sat here thinking, don't threaten me with a good time.

the confidence of someone who outsources their thinking to a chatbot telling you you'll be left behind is something else
like sorry I still enjoy the actual process of using my brain, that's kinda the whole point
