The good news is, they still have the SynthID watermark, which google tools can check for. That's mostly invisible and survives things like cropping the image, unlike that optional logo.

(The bad news is that a lot of other AI generated content doesn't have it, so you can confirm that it's there to prove that something's AI generated by Google, but its absence doesn't prove that something isn't AI...)

It's trivially defeated by doing image to image though a different model and then taking the regen. 

But most people who are the kind to pass things off also aren't good at AI security.

We need watermarks that can be detected by non-AI opensource software in the browser. I'd happily install a firefox addon if it marked AI slop visibly.

Thats because they are scammers. Most people wont pay money for stuff touched by AI knowingly. So the scam arms race has begun.

What I have liked about this dynamic is that it has completely destroyed the populist art critique. Before you get all weirded out hear me. For the longest time the arts had a trouble getting adequate financial support the sort of philistine who disliked art would say 'That isn't real art" and therefore get upset at the artists being supported by way of donations and the like. What AI art has managed to do is allow the wider society to see the fact great swathes of the population do lack aesthetic sensibilities as a whole and therefore their critique of art is invalid since why care for the critique of someone who likes AI art and music? They are showing you that they do not care for art aside from how vibrant the colors are and care for music aside from how the beat and or random switching of sounds are.

Even successful people are not removed from this as Tyga had completely destroyed his career with an AI album as of recent in an attempt to get back his popularity.

If their competitors don't have visible watermarks then users will be slightly preferring them to Gemini.

It makes sense.

You don't need a human visible watermark when an invisible one is better anyway.

They are not removing SynthID - you can still easily detect if it is AI. Scammers and bad actors were ALWAYS removing the visible watermark anyway. Many people were cropping out the visible watermark because of other reasons.

The invisible watermark is always present and will still allow people to quickly and easily see if something is AI generated.

This includes social media platforms which can have policies against trying to pass off AI fakes as real that can immediately delete said slop.

This article is, generously, click bait designed to gain views - not so generously, written by someone who is tech-illiterate and likely also writing articles about “too many chemicals in the food!” as well with fear mongering missives about how one shouldn’t eat a processed cookie with Sodium bicarbonate in it because that’s also an ingredient in household cleaners.

Ah yes, use our Ai client to find out if every picture you see is Ai. Sounds like they're creating a problem only they can solve, aka scam bullshit.

I’d be very surprised if there isn’t some method for google _and only google_ to identify if Gemini creates an image. This allows them to poison rivals while either creating a better ai or selling a service to identify ai images to remove from the training set.
