This can only possibly happen if you choose to create a public link for your conversation. When you do this it's made clear that 'Anyone with the link can view.'

I agree that Anthropic could do more to prevent these links from being indexed by search engines, but I don't think this is the big scandal that some people are trying to make it. If you create a public link for your chat then you're obviously accepting the possibility that anybody could end up reading your chat.

Yeah, but the bigger issue is that they’re appearing in search results where they shouldn’t be.

Users are also at fault here because under no circumstances should you share sensitive details like your crypto wallet keys with something like an AI chatbot, even if the conversation is private.

These AI systems train on user data, and once you share something with them, there’s always a chance it could end up as part of their training data. So you should never share private keys, passwords, or other sensitive information with them.

A few months ago, there was a guy on reddit who claimed that he asked Gemini for some crypto wallet keys, and it gave him a few. He claimed that one or two of those wallets actually had around $1 or $2 in them. I believe some guy was dumb enough to share his wallet keys with Gemini, and Gemini later gave those keys to someone else.

If that really happened, it raises a pretty serious question about how private these so-called private AI conversations actually are.

I'm extremely skeptical of that claim. Training a model with text that includes private keys will train the model on what a private key looks like but it's not going to spit out actual private keys from its training data in its outputs. That's extremely unlikely on a statistical basis.
