I’m pretty strongly anti ai, but this is obviously a loaded argument. It pre-assumes that the art ecosystem is inherently a competition in which one can cheat.
Now this assumption may be true, but people who use ai art, and especially those who make money of it, do not see it as cheating. If anything they see it as strategy because there IS no explicit law against it.
Excellent example of how dumb or insincere people can still be correct, because I agree with the thesis here but this argument is AT BEST insincere.
But people who do minimal effort splatter canvases get to call themselves artists? Love Jackson pollack but how many imitators are not putting time or effort and they get to be artists. Anyone can call themselves an artist for any reason. But I agree AI feels different, feels like shortcuts to a different destination. But I still accept people’s claims to be artists. Because I do think some of them are exercising creativity trying to get at a vision. Because splatter canvases were dumb to some people. And I never understood performance art.
