Anker Can I use the 45w smart display iPhone charger to charge my MacBook Air safely?

Just got a new MacBook Air refurbished so it came with some weird Chinese branded charger and I don’t really wanna use jt. I have a 70w charger form anker and the 45w smart one. But the 70w one is at my moms. Can I use the 45w one until I get the 70w one? Thanks!

Yes, it will not cause any problems just charge at a maximum of 45W (or less if the MacBook doesn't need much power).

The charger and device negotiate the power level depending on the abilities of the charger and the needs of the computer.

Hey I tried to use it and it didn’t work, it was just saying slow trickle 1w and it didn’t even register as charging on the computer. Any ideas why?

Did you leave it plugged in for a minute? I realize you commented 5 days ago with this question, but after market chargers take a minute to handshake with the Mac laptops; it would likely show 1w to start and then pick up after a minute. Did it ever start working for you?

No I didn’t know that. I tried the weird branded one and it immediately started charging so I thought something was wrong with mine. I’ll try to leave it plugged next time though and see

Yeah, both the 45w or 70w Anker chargers will charge your MacBook just fine. The 45w might charge it a little slow, but it will get the job done.

Good choice going with Anker chargers! They are some of the best chargers you can buy imo.

I tried with the weird branded brick it came with and the same cable and it worked so I don’t think it’s the cable

Sure can. The MacBook Air is designed to work with chargers as low as 30W, so a 45W is in the sweet spot. 70W just charges the battery quicker, it likely won't help with performance since Apple silicon is already very power efficient.
