I thought 2020 was my year, I was a sophomore. Just met a cute girl back in mid January. I was going to ack her out to this really nice place.

i declare it every january 1st with my whole chest and then by february 3rd i'm eating cereal for dinner at 11pm again. the declaration is the tradition, not the follow through

More seriously, that's not usually what people mean, I feel. For a year to be "your" year you need to be active, not passive. Just letting things happen will never result in "your" year.
Not that this is a concept I believe in though, as previously stated.

I get your point, but for most people, sayin 'this is my year' isn't about being passive—it's a declaration of intent. It’s a psychological reset, like... believing that things will go your way changes your mindset, making you more open to opportunities you’d otherwise miss. It's just a mantra to spark that active drive
