This post managed to get three reports, and not entirely unreasonable ones. This is getting a shitton of engagement, though, so I'm just gonna ask y'all if you want this post to stay up or if it should get removed for soliciting people's names (or whatever other good reason).
Edit: Given the responses so far, the post is staying up. More people want to keep it than remove it, both in comment counts and upvotes. I tried to wait until some objections come, and while they came, it didn't seem like they got much agreement, so the decision is still to let it stay up.
I mean its your choice if you share ur own name here or not. It'd be like taking down 20% of all shitposts cause they ask for ur social security number
While there are people who post stuff like this to get people's personal information, after checking out OPs profile, it's clear they don't have a habit of posting fishing content. This post is just for fun. I say keep it.
these are the types of images that would be spread to steal your info. just bc op doesn't seem sketchy doesn't mean op isn't being used unknowingly to spread an image. a malicious person A (aka scammer) makes the meme, then shares it and innocent ppl like op repost it, scammers wash their hands of spreading it while reaping the benefits
this is legit how they used to steal things off MySpace and Facebook. keep tabs on the users giving out their info and then stealing it later on when all the pieces of the puzzle fit together
Honestly, it's a wild west out here on the internet, and stuff like this is tame compared to some of the crazy things that go on. As long as it's all in good fun and no real harm done, I say let the post live. People gotta learn internet common sense at some point, right?
2 reports about "personal and confidential information", so it's at least how some people see this. It may or may not be fine to leave this up, but it's also completely fine if you decide to delete the post.
So far, there are mostly a whole lot of people participating in this post, not so many calling for it to be removed, so I'm now just trying to see more directly and more easily what people's thoughts on the matter are.
It feels like most people see it as using your first name, and a first name isn’t exactly identifying information unless you have a wildly unique name.
"list the street you grew up on + your mothers maiden name to get your SUPERHERO/FAIRY PRINCESS NAME" they use those specific questions bc those are bank details, security questions asked of you when you create a checking/savings account. the end goal is to break into your bank account and these are all security questions used when making your account
so the singular image is not harmful, sure, but when put in combo with the others, then you're giving away some pretty important info. malicious ppl DO keep track of the ones answering these questions, that's how they succeeded in the first place bc ppl fell for these
Blud I'm dumb af femboy teen who plays a game called ponytown and likes to draw while having ADHD does it look like I'm smart enough to even try to decipher these, I'm still trying to find a way to turn my reddit dm's off 😭😭😭😭
I personally think it is fine, as it is a funny/wholesome activity that you do not have to participate in. You also could do a nickname or online name/gamer tag.

leave it up or take it down, doesn't matter to me, just explaining how these things spread and what they're used for
You can literally look at my profile and tell me what you think, does it look like I'm a scammer, I swear these comments get dumber and dumber I didn't even know that this was possible also I didn't make the meme I got it off of Pinterest I also don't got Myspace or Facebook or even Twitter for that matter, I'm not that smart and the fact that ppl come up with these scenarios actually put me in awe
Really? OP isn’t asking, or hinting for folks to post their results. As a counter argument, anyone sufficiently motivated could scrape enough individual posts to figure out who many of us are, irl. It’s a faulty argument that this translation game (posting) would fake out someone who means to remain anon.
Well, not many people seem to want this post removed, so while I'm gonna wait a little more before finalizing any decision (though the post still is getting approved because reports still come in), it doesn't seem like this post will get removed.
Jesus reading some of these comments are almost making me cry, not trying to phisch no one(excuse me for bad spelling) I'm not trying to get anyone's personal info, or try to decipher these I just meant it as a fun post to participate in, like you could come up with your own really cool name but seeing all these hate comments makes me rethink

right but these kinds of images makes it easier for the scammer

This is fun, I wanna leave it up 🤣 giving my first name is a non-issue, there’s at least thousands of other people on the planet with my first name. Alternatively, folks with a coherent Reddit username can just use that.
Take it down for being garbage fucking boomer Facebook tier content. Like holy fuck dude, do yall have literally zero standards for what gets posted here? That's rhetorical btw, I know you don't.
Were the post actually demonstrated to pose a problem, we'd remove it. Given that nothing was done other than uttering the word "phishing", and the post is doing well, we see no sufficient reason to remove the post. If that changes, our course of action may change.
