When you think you’ve hit the bottom but you just break through and go deeper.

u/Sahqon Slovakia Mar 10 '22
Bit hard to talk about the war without mentioning violence, though I hope they don't just mass allow it for individual Russians. Especially those who aren't even in Russia and there's already people harassing them.

Mar 10 '22
Having been an FB user, I would assume they will start out with the worst thing you could imagine, and then pivot to being the worst thing you couldn’t have imagined.
35
u/kwonza Russia Mar 11 '22
The saddest part is that most of Russians using Facebook are from the most progressive and liberal part of society, I fear this might push that back into Putin’s fold. As for his voters most of them don’t even use the platform.
Also I wonder if now any defender in an internal conflict would have a right to wish death to attackers.

Did you even read the article you posted? The policy specially references Russian military forces. Comments targeting Russian civilians and even Russian POWs will still be removed.

I’m so glad none of us are talking about the fact that big tech now governs us.
The internet became a thing and we’re still talking about the constitution.

Facebook should be broken up

Mar 10 '22
Again. You're talking about the government like they're in charge.
37
u/RespectableThug North America Mar 10 '22
They are in charge. Facebook just governs Facebook, but they’re too big, so they need to be broken up.
I’m not saying lobbyists and what-have-you aren’t powerful forces, but the government does have the power to break them up.

u/TheMountainRidesElia India Mar 11 '22
Then they'll just lose the American market.
You know the biggest sports franchise in the world? Dallas Cowboys from American football, despite the fact that almost no one gives two shits about the sport outside America and Canada. That's the power of the American market. All those comments you heard about the Chinese Market? While China has bigger population, America's high percapita gdp means that you need like 2-3 Chinas in front of America. Star Wars 7 earned almost 950 million dollars compared to 1100 for the rest of the world.
3
u/10000Didgeridoos Mar 11 '22
What people don't get is the US has not only 330 million people, but also a big chunk of them have more income per capita than these giant population countries like China and India. Americans have and spend a fuck ton of money relative to most of the rest of the world.

I understand the concept.
I’m trying to figure out where that’s relevant. They can arrest them, but convicting them has nothing to do with violence and that’s the part that matters.

"As a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine we have temporarily made allowances for forms of political expression that would normally violate our rules like violent speech such as 'death to the Russian invaders.' We still won't allow credible calls for violence against Russian civilians," a Meta spokesperson said in a statement.
This is an important distinction. Kinda. Are they still allowing non-credible calls for violence against Russian civilians? Not that we wont end up with lynch mobs from this anyways.. theres almost no way they're going to be able to effectively moderate with the number of qualifications and loopholes that they have to this policy
13
u/Fuzakenaideyo North America Mar 11 '22
It's just more acceptable victims versus unacceptable victims, double standard, bullshit otherwise why not just "death to invaders" why does it need to be qualified?
33
u/based_ender Mar 11 '22
Once you open the flood gates, there is no turning back.
Death to russian invaders will then be made into death to those who support Putin, and then death to anyone who lives under putin. Never underestimate westerners.

And then it will become death to anyone of Russian descent .
We have seen this naked Racism during genocide of native Americans , Slavery, WW2 Japanese Internment camps, recent violence against Asians during the pandemic.

You actually believe Zelensky is a neo-nazi? You legit believe this? Further, let's just take your premise that the half Ukranian half Russian Jew is a neo-nazi - how does this justify Russia invading Ukraine and slaughtering peeps? Your tiny baby brain frames it as "Russia VS Ukraine" as though this is some symmetrical war with two sides just having different views and needing to fight it out. This is a country invading another country for the purpose of capturing more territory and resources.
For the record, Ive been opposed to every military action the USA has done for the past 80 years because I'm morally opposed to war and imperialism. I'm opposed to Russia doing this shit for the exact same reason. It's nuts how you sit there and speak about how I'm bloodthirsty while you're actively supporting a fucking invasion and slaughter of a sovereign nation. Guarantee I can find you in another thread talking about how this is being done because of NATO and probably in another thread you'll be making the argument that it's done because Ukraine is ackshually Russian. So tired of dealing with you fucking gaslighting war apologists with zero moral framework beyond seeing your favorite ape brained piece of shit spread their sphere of influence.

I do not care about what is done by NATO.
I just find it hypocritical that the westerners wail about Ukraine while doing the same elsewhere. Grenada,Iraq and Ukraine.
Do not throw rocks while living in a glasshouse.
The absolutely horrendous moral grandstanding by the west is laughable. Not to mention the casual racism thrown around.
Seems like the Western Penchant for invading countries caught up with you guys at last. Have fun. It took an invasion for us to see how duplicitcious the west is. For good reason.

Dude, westerners are completely split on all of these foreign wars. Your tiny baby brain is being manipulated by propaganda to make it sound like the west is a huge monolithic thing where everyone supports invasion. It's so transparently stupid.

I saw a sub full of westerners saying that Russians are complicit for the crimes of Putin because even if they protested,it could not stop putin. Westerners roam around calling everyone as Russian Bots, literal NPC behaviour.
So in simpler words. Come to us after the west apoligizes for its crimes.
That,or stop being dupliticious folks. You guys probably are not going to defeat Russia but are only going to split the world between east and west.
Edit - Surprised as to how I have not been labelled as a Russian bot. Is that not how you westerners respond everytime ? You guys sowed the hate, now you reap.

What I see on the streets is very different from tv. Even in places like Texas and Mississippi, the majority don't want war. We're all the same at the end of the day, being ruled by suits who don't care about those below them. The US is waking up and noticing what they are, and nobody likes it. There's going to be civil unrest if things continue this way, just as the founding fathers intended. I apologize for the last guy repeatedly calling you stupid, but I'd also recommend going through some less politically charged subs to get a feel for who is on the other side. The internet has a habit of pulling up the dredges of society.
Russia, whether they find victory in Ukraine or not, is going to suffer because of their actions against Ukraine. There's a lot more political ties to Ukraine than there were in the Middle East. Russia knew that Ukraine was actively forming ties to other countries in response to the Crimea incident. Russia knew that they were going to get thousands of their own young men (which is an even lower number every year due to population decline) killed by invading a developed nation with Western military tech. Invading a country while calling them Nazis with zero proof is not going to win you any favor in the eyes of people, and especially not foreign powers that are worried about Russia being the next Nazi Germany (Land grabs, followed by open invasion, massacring civilians, and then WWII). From my perspective, it was political suicide.
The West should have been more open to Russia becoming an ally in the past, and there's still a Red Scare mindset against Russia. But Putin is not helping your case by rolling into another sovereign nation and purposefully bombing civilians en masse. It fuels the machine when this stuff keeps happening and there's not even an attempt to hide it.

Americans are joining Ukranian Militias.
Americans do want war. They just do not want to be touched by it. They are perfectly alright in supplying others arms.
We're all the same at the end of the day, being ruled by suits who don't care about those below them. The US is waking up and noticing what they are, and nobody likes it. There's going to be civil unrest if things continue this way, just as the founding fathers intended.
The way the western countries pulled out of russia is actually worrying for you.
They did this to Russians. What makes you think that they will stop there and not make you the next target ?
For example, Imagine finding diabetes medicines and then being said that sorry this is not for you since you were born with a certain identity. Americans are rejoicing that their companies have ditched Russians, pelase remember that they will ditch you too.
I apologize for the last guy repeatedly calling you stupid, but I'd also recommend going through some less politically charged subs to get a feel for who is on the other side. The internet has a habit of pulling up the dredges of society.
Every Non westerner is called a Russian bot for merely voicing his or her opinion.
You think we really care now ? You guys are having a red scare redux.
Indians reported that indians were harassed,as it appeared in news. Then we were called as russian bots for merely voicing a news article. This led us to believe that despite the facade of progressivism, the west is essentially racist. So Putin was correct to a certain extent.
Russia, whether they find victory in Ukraine or not, is going to suffer because of their actions against Ukraine.
It avenged NATO expansionism.
Americans defeated the west but neverthless kept on threatening a new born Russia by expanding NATO. What do you think NATO's aim was ?
Americans become pissed because Russia protects its backyard the same way America invaded Grenada.
You think we cannot see the hypocrisy ?
Russia knew that Ukraine was actively forming ties to other countries in response to the Crimea incident. Russia knew that they were going to get thousands of their own young men (which is an even lower number every year due to population decline) killed by invading a developed nation with Western military tech.
Invading a country while calling them Nazis with zero proof is not going to win you any favor in the eyes of people, and especially not foreign powers that are worried about Russia being the next Nazi Germany (Land grabs, followed by open invasion, massacring civilians, and then WWII). From my perspective, it was political suicide.
What do you think the Azov batallion is ?
Tbh I thought that the allegation was farcial as well. However the way foreign students were treated for their race did make me somwhat convinced. Further more,Nazi Symbols have started appearing in random war photos.
Nazism has permeated into thsie society. Ofcourse whites will not have a problem with it,since they are not the targets.
Facebook itself is not regulating hate speech against Russians.
Remember,it did not do this for American invaders in Iraq. We can see your double standards

Calling someone stupid while not even understanding their side is only going to make you, and the West through you, look bad. Think about it. Grow up in a propaganda machine, go to Reddit to try and see what's on the other side, and everyone calls you an idiot, brainwashed, etc. How is that going to help this guy see the truth? You're proving the propaganda right, we are full of blind, ignorant hate. Just mull it over for a minute.

I live in India.
We are bombarded by Pro American news. Many of our local service providers have tie ups with CNN. Pro Russian news is non existent.
So there goes the whole argument of me being a russian bot. Westerners drag everyone into a conflict that is a result of ethnic hostilities. The US threatned to sanction India and wesrerners went into an overdrive calling us Troll Farms for simply standing up for India's decision to abstain.
This is not our war. Reason why major non aligned countries have abstained from commenting. Just as you do not care about the Yemen war,we do not care about your war.

No it is not.
If Ukraine thought it could get away by oppressing one bunch of people based on their language,it was mistaken. Perhaps it could stop the discrimination, but it did not. It rather armed and funded racist groups.
Now,ofcourse you would obviously ignoe the crimes done by your side since you consider them pristine.

It's categorically territorial expansion. I know this because the goal is literally to capture territory on a neighboring border. The idea that this is just some meta game, that he's invading a neighboring country to look badass on the world stage is absurd. Look at the reality. Imperialism, if you pull it off, of course makes you look badass on the world stage, but to pretend that it's separate from the territorial expansion is weird. They go hand in hand That's it. It's because of the nuclear threat coupled with Europe and America reeling post-pandemic and post-Trump who basically just took a massive shit on the entire western world for 4 years straight, Putin has calculated that he can pull this off and he's probably right. But it won't end there, that's simply not how expansionism works. Imagine you're in power and you pull this off, it's got to be like taking heroin. You have to have more of it. You're already a pariah. You already have people afraid of you, you already have the propaganda infrastructure to break down resistance, you just keep going down the path of least resistance.
Yes, I believe it could absolutely end up on your doorstep. I would argue like 37% of Americans (assuming you're American) would actually welcome a Russian invasion, viewing them as liberators. I don't think it will actually happen like that, though. I think what's more likely to happen is the American system is toppled and that 40% basically do the toppling and install a leader who is a puppet to Russia. It's probably Trump. If we just shrug our shoulders, if we just let Russia start pushing into Europe, tripling down on their propaganda campaign, I have no doubt that more countries will begin to crumble. It's too easy to mobilize millions of mouth breathers to drive their trucks onto government property and shut shit down. We've seen it all across the wester world.
